Highlights of Day 3 at NZFW 2013 included shows from Deryn Schmidt, NYNE, NZ Weddings, Underground installation, Trelise Cooper, and Stolen Girlfriends Club.

The fashion week day began with Deryn Schmidt which I hear from several sources was really pretty and had lots of wearable pieces.

I got picked up by a red Mercedes by Hustle and Bustle and driven into Sofitel Auckland for an Andrea Moore event where the designer, Andrea, talked us through the collection and we got to try on her current collection and be styled by the lovely L.A. Stylist Marina Monroe of StyleHaus. Not only were there several very desirable dresses – including a Scotty dog green sleeveless floaty silk dress – but Sofitel put on a delicious spread and I hear there were Bombay Sapphire cocktails at the later session!

NB. Excuse all my own grainy photos – the proper show photos are in our Thread runway reviews.

Read about our Model of the Day: the lovely Carmel Donald at Nova.

What I wore: Zambesi black lapel, Glassons blazer, bag by Tamaasa, shoes Hailwood for Mi Piaci.

NYNE celebrated their 9th anniversary (9/9/2013) with a show entitled Nomadic, to live music with a rock guitarist from Thunderdykes. See our NYNE show photos on Thread and read about the M.A.C makeup for NYNE on Thread here. Photos Izzie Austin.

NZ Weddings was absolutely gorgeous and the children made it a highlight – both off the catwalk (two of NZFW’s Pieter Stewart’s grandchildren and the twelve week-old baby of Fashion One presenter!) and on the catwalk, in the very cute Sera Lilly show (my Instagram, below).

Two little page boys carried a sign reading ‘Here come the brides’ and two brides walked the aisle hand-in-hand. Elsewhere, gowns from Vinka Brides, and menswear from Crane Bros (having a closing down sale at Richmond Road today I see) and Working Style ensured the grooms were suitably attired.

Below: an amusing display of retro gowns from Vinka Brides from the 60s to today. Check out the meringue dresses of the 80s and 90s.

From the delicate blushing brides makeup to the punk and piercings of Trelise Cooper. I know – if you’d asked me which designer would be featuring face piercings and nose studs, Trelise Cooper would have not been first on my list. But it really worked and gave an edge to the show which featured plenty of Vivienne Westwood-esque tartan and leather. I was so lucky to get the chance to view the makeup being applied to models’ faces backstage keyed by Amber D for M.A.C.

Key Makeup Artist Amber D quoted the inspiration: “Soft vs. Tough” using key products: M.A.C Mineralize Moisture Foundation, M.A.C Groundwork Paint Pot worn on the eyes, M.A.C Burgundy & Fuschia Lipmix worn on the lips.

On nails, M.A.C Nightfall Nail Lacquer as a base with custom blend of black and white velvet pressed over the top by Leah Light using M.A.C

The Underground installation in Sofitel carpark (yes, I’m spending a LOT of time at that hotel. I should be sleeping there.) was a real fashion week highlight. Well done to Chris Lorimer of Ciel PR and all the designers, including Kowtow, Jimmy D, Thistle Brown, Jessica Grubisa, and more. See the UNDERGROUND photos by Izzie Austin on Thread.

Trelise Cooper was very fashionably late but was a real spectacle when it did happen. Despite controversies (a late start, rumours of missing clothes, models bleeding feet, media in "row E" – which turned out to be front row as the stage took up rows A to D) the Trelise show was a theatrical spectacle! This tent descended from the ceiling for Act 2 of the Trelise Cooper show at NZ Fashion Week. Stunning. I say it every year, but NZ Fashion Week would just not be the same without Trelise.

The Trelise Cooper hair by Bettjemans was skilfully transformed from this ponytail version below, and swept up, and made into a glam conehead, for part two.

Stolen Girlfriends Club was SO FASHION. The Stolen designers Marc Moore and Dan Gosling really know how to bring the party and create "an event", as Lani Says sitting next to me aptly termed it. Read our review of their AW14 collection ‘Dirty Magic’, as well as backstage photos with M.A.C artist James Molloy.

Below: the goody bag was a great canvas bag, love it.
