And we’re off. Fashion Week 2013 is go!

Here’s where to park, the pretty fashion show invites, the show schedule, and what media delegates get in their goody bags…

I have one nice thing and one bad thing to say about Auckland Council. Firstly, good job on the Jellicoe Street carpark having one hour free parking; I just used that to collect my delegate bag and it’s a short easy walk along the very foodie cobbled lane of Jellicoe. However, not cool having roadworks all down Halsey Street during Fashion Week. You can’t drive both ways down the main access route and it’s going to be a knot of angry taxi drivers doing U turns at the drop off point. Ahh well. Three things you can’t avoid in life: death, taxes, and roadworks.

Invites are always a pleasure to open (read: where am I sitting?) and Trelise Cooper’s are usually the prettiest. In the past they have been pop-up books, lit-up LED battery operated, and this year it is an opaque plastic invite. Invites often give a glimpse into the collection print – I see Hailwood’s is a falcon so maybe he has a birdy theme? I love Stolen Girlfriends Club’s ‘Dirty Magic’ fantasy comic book-esque invite.

"Getting ready for NZ Fashion Week is always a good time. Figuring out how best to squeeze your ipad into your favourite clutch and deciding which shoes to wear are interesting challenges, or as I like to call them #fashionworldproblems" says Thread’s fashion writer, Olivia Boswell. "There’s the excitement of seeing the set-up at the Viaduct Harbour Events Centre for the first time and the sigh from editors when their tickets can’t be found at registration. Rummaging through my tickets wondering if I got an invite to that coveted show? Yes I did, but only G.A. entry – oh well. Everyone’s very excited and some are a bit nervous, but no one wants to show either emotion. Getting a smile from other delegates is a relief – we’re all in this together after all! Here’s to a big week of fun, frivolity and of course, fashion."

My hot tip to park for fashion week: Jellicoe St carpark.

…and it’s only a hop, skip and a jump to…The Viaduct Events Centre.

These are all the sponsors, we like them.

Fashion media collecting their delegate bags and enjoying a spot of sunshine in the calm before the (figurative) storm.

Get amongst it and enjoy. And take your phone charger and snacks. No-one likes media who are hangry with a flat battery.
