Drawing from the seedy glamour of prohibition night clubs and the film Bonnie and Clyde, Phoenix Cosmetics’ Fashion Week show was a rich pageant of theatre – and quite a few feathers.
With the make-up collection drawing on the 20s and 30s, the look is sultry and dramatic, glamorous and glittering. But the theatrical makeup is just part of the show which takes the audience back in time to Chicago and the heady and glamorous prohibition days.
Well-known Shortland Street starlets Faye Smythe, Kimberley Crossman, Sally Martin and Frankie Adams are amongst models. Kiel McNaughton who plays Scotty on Shortland St is directing the opening of the show, which sees he and fellow Shorty Streeter Te Kohe Tuhaka and the Almighty Johnson’s Ben Barrington and Emmett Skilton star in a dramatic showdown.
Referencing the great performers of the era, Clara Bow, Josephine Baker and Jean Harlow, the look is sumptuous – think lashes tipped with pearls, crystals and lace, and wings made of ostrich feathers.
Adding to the feel were authentic 1920s costumes from Decorum Store and a burlesque show courtesy of sponsor Diamond Entertainment with nails by Minx Nails.
