Sunday’s Child is full of grace…

But in this case, it was Thursdays child, who was not only graceful but fair of face to boot.

With gold foil-encrusted partings and ethereal makeup, angelic models walked in Salasai’s ‘Sacrificial Grace’ collection shown at the Hilton in NZ Fashion Week.

It was a strong, mature collection that showed the coming of age for the relatively young label begun in 2006 by designer Kirsha Whitcher.

The collection worked best with its knotted pieces and its prints, both geometric and painterly.

Prints included an oversized snowflake sweatshirt that must be size triple XL and became a dress on the model.

Playing on the snowflake print further in a monochromatic kaleidoscope print, this cape-sleeved dress combine curves and sharp lines together well.

Weaker points were the black and white houndstooth men’s trousers (dinner service?)

A scoopnecked longsleeved woollen dress featured a trompe l’oeil boned corset.

The accent on the waist pictured in the pleasted skirt above, continued with a horizontal waistline dividing this painterly printed watercolour dress with softer pleating.

The painterly printed dress drew inspiration from the sky and grass in this landscape print.

Next; the structure. Blazers for men and women in metallic gold threaded fabric had patch piockets and turquoise collars.

Twists and knots added a sculptural element in this nude and black dress, and a knitted top.

Stick to your knotting.

Hair by Stephen Marr with gold leaf down the centre part at temple and nape of the necks. Models were accessorised with spectable frames held on with crystal chains – also seen on a nose ring- , oversized cocktail rings, and the makeup featured grey eyebrows and a darker top lip.
