The Hailwood AW12 collection also included polkadots, which he seems to slip into every one of his collections. One polkadot fabric was white on white, another black, white and silver grey.
The collection featured a lot of white, and navy blue instead of the traditional NZ black only. With pant suits, blouses, and a gorgeous black leather fitted jacket – there was plenty to choose from.
Dresses always feature strongly with Hailwood, and this year was no exception, with maxi sandwashed silk cocktail dresses in blue, and short white dresses with feature prints of Hailwood’s signature ‘blue lady’.
There was a bit of a Halston-esque feel to things with wide sleeves and 70s styling. We liked the cream knit silk dress with the gold choker.
To finish things off, two full length dress came down the catwalk – one black sequin encrusted slinky number and another draped in fringing in blue and black.
Ever thing felt like it had a nice ease about it. Again though, a bit of culling wouldn’t have gone amiss, as it felt like a large collection. It would seem to us that Hailwood has always been strong on tailoring, and knows how to cut for a woman’s shape. That’s a strength in any language.
Thumbs up from Adrian after his show.
