WORLD AW 2011
NZ Fashion Week 22 September 2010
Scone with cream, anyone? Pass the sugar, honey.
Over high tea in the Great Room at Auckland’s Langham Hotel, the WORLD show was easily the most glamorous and civilised of the week.
This is just what the doctor ordered, I thought to myself, after a rather lacklustre start to fashion week and I was not to be disappointed with WORLD’s predictably high glam show proving to be a much needed injection of sequins and splendour.
Below: Thread.co.nz’s Megan and Anya, with Derek Warburton and Krista White, watch the show. The international VIPs at our table said; "So much fun. A lovely collection." They were especially excited over the possum fur-backed high heels and the plastic raincoats.
Whilst many of the pieces were too O.T.T. for everyday wear in godzone, they certainly captivated the audience and got oohs and aahs and camera phones a-flashing. Many were directly translatable straight from the catwalk to the pavement, such as a taupe suit and red dress, also seen in a fur collared swing coat.
Not so straight-laced: tasselled high heels and lace tights with a leopard pencil skirt.
A particular highlight was longstanding collaborator Brent Lawler’s hairpiece creations and the crystal make-up in fuschia and teal cats eyes.
A teal clutch purse adds a shot of colour to a black fringed outfit. The devil’s in the details.
Can’t decide between movement, colour, or pattern? Choose this dress, and have it all!
Knitted accessories for men: knitted necklaces
…and knitted bowties.
WORLD men do wear plaid.
See-through plastic raincoat.
For sheer stage impact, you can’t go past eight metres of silk satin in a shade that would make a rosella blush. Behold: the showstopping gowns in yellow, fuschia and cornflower blue.
And it’s not all peacocks-and-primroses colour-wise, they can do a charming LBD too. Check out this side-ruffled number, Audrey.
WORLD’s End: models walk the catwalk for the finale.
Through a glass darkly: brooding looks from a male model in dark glasses.
The WORLD’s their stage: Designers Francis Hooper, Denise L’Estrange Corbet and Bernie Castles take to the catwalk in the finale.
