Sigh. Not only was the makeup at Stolen Girlfriends Club my favourite of NZ Fashion Week, I got to personally meet M.A.C Key Makeup Artist James Molloy backstage…

James Molloy, originally from the UK, is a total makeup maestro, and it was a pleasure to meet him as he’s completely lovely! He talked Thread through the show’s makeup look.

He said the Stolen Girlfriends Club makeup inspiration was “Pagan Punk in inky tones; she’s a little witchy. She dabbles in the dark arts a bit. It’s a haunting, glossy eye.” This translated as striking blues above the eye, and red in the mid section below; specifically, M.A.C Marine Ultra Paint Stick buffed onto the eyelid with Basic Red Chromagraphic Pencil applied to the lower lash line. "It’s a heavy eye, so we’re stripping back the skin" he said. Cheekbones were given a plastic Gloss Texture highlight for "hot and steamy skin."

I asked James how the dramatic show look could translate for readers. He said with the skin, try adding a new texture – the gloss- for really beautiful highlights.
he used M.A.C Gloss Crème Brilliance applied to the cheekbones and eyelids for shine.

In all, it was a grunge, goth, deconstructed look. Check out our backstage beauty photos below on model Eden of 62 Models.

On nails, Leah Light custom-blended M.A.C Vestral White, Delicate, Quiet Time and Skin Nail Lacquers with nail art painted on using M.A.C Nocturnelle Nail Lacquer used to paint on magick symbols. "Each girl has unique hands; each look is different" said MAC’s Tatum Savage.
