There are two sides to every coin they say, and such is the case with Juliette Hogan’s A/W11 collection The Morning After The Night Before.
Past collections have evoked feelings of sugar and spice and all things nice, while this year we see that same good girl take a different, slightly darker direction.
Naturally there are aspects of everything that is loved and admired by Hogan fans: sheer shirts, pussy bows, soft pleats and high waists. She always puts on a good show for the lover of the ladylike.
So the black cropped leather tee was an unexpected but surprisingly fitting twist. It was the perfect introduction for the typically demure muse to turn ever so slightly bad and to let her new self awe the unprepared crowd. Perhaps the infamous Lady Gaga had a part to play in the toughening up of the act as some blazer wearing models were styled pant-less for their walk!
Gasps of delight proved the 1950s inspired high waisted polka dot dress was a crowd pleaser, along with the black floor scraping lace gown.
This new and some would say daring direction, of leathers, knits, polka dots and vintage floral prints, gave life and texture to an otherwise often fairly neutral shaded show.
A perfectly timed breath of fresh air to a well loved and respected NZ label.
