The third show of the day was Lela Jacobs AW13 collection entitled ‘de’; a deconstructed show where models walked slowly to a haunting live music accompaniment by Tzar Behemoth, with a film projection by Calypso Paoli.
The styling seemed to draw heavily from ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, with crimped hair in stocking caps and white painted eyes. Lela Jacobs, of Auckland store The Keep, had a strong vision and aesthetic and really created a mood with this show- it was almost like watching a spiritual performance or coming across a mystical ritual.
Our favourite piece was the inside-out shearling cape on the White Queen with a leather crown, and her incredible printed paper coat.
Elsewhere, clothes were all black with dropped crotches, shoulder yokes bound on loosely rather than stitched together, and raw hems. Fabrics were highly textured with natural fibres.
Models’ hair was worn long and loose, beautifully crimped to give amazing texture, by Sky Cripps Jackson from Stephen Marr.
