Matchi Motchi was by far the most couture of collections to date at New Zealand Fashion Week.

The label’s background in textile art was evident with strong futuristic influences with a harder Mad Max edge.

Completely unwearable in its styling and avant garde detailing, the selection of garments were completely fresh to those (more commercial pieces) shown at sales appointments earlier in the week.

The Riccardo Tisci-esque layered chiffon cocoon and rolled metallic puffer edges suggest a strong sense of costume drama and showmanship while proving a creative approach to technical skill and craftsmanship.

The look book shows dramatically pared back looks so we await with anticipation what reaches the customer rather than the NZFW attendees.

And if you suspect the soundtrack was Lady Gaga; you were right.
