I have never seen a wide array of guests come in for a New Zealand Fashion Week show as those who came to NZ Weddings Magazine Collection show.
Literally, women of all ages – and a few men – filled the Westpac Shed and front row guests were surprised with the girliest of loot bags and roses to boot.
With eight different collections – Michelle Yvette, John Zimmermann, Sera Lilly, Alma Wong, Vinka Design, A La Robe, Anna Schimmel and Crane Brothers (menswear) – coming down the runway with just one universal theme (read: weddings), I thought it’ll just be a big blur of white and poof.
I was hugely mistaken.
Like the magazine counterpart, it didn’t fail to pull those heartstrings that makes every girl want to get married (or for those who already tied the knot, get married all over again).
Jamie Ridge opened the show walking for Michelle Yvette (below) and it was nice seeing her in the most feminine of outfits.

John Zimmermann’s collection was a personal favourite. The details and beadwork of every gown (below) from his was just too pretty for words and any bride would be lucky to walk down the aisle in one of those.
Sera Lilly received a unanimous ‘aaaaaaaaw’ from the crowd when flower girls and a little boy – the designer’s children – walked down the runway.

But, the designer who brings home the cake from this show would have to be Alma Wong.
Vinka Brides
Her ‘wedding gown with pockets’ idea was just plain life altering. Note to designers, dresses with pockets truly are one of those unwritten girl’s best friends.
