New Zealand Fashion Week 2010 opened tonight with a performance by singer Mika and a fashion-star studded guest list including the Mayor, and international and local VIPs at the party down at Halsey Street.

Following Mika’s performance, Fashion Week Managing Director Pieter Stewart welcomed distinguished guests including His Worship the Mayor John Banks, National MP Nikki Kaye and international and local VIP’s to toast the opening of NZFW 2010.

Stewart spoke of the highlights of the past ten years.

“Since New Zealand Fashion week was just a seed of an idea amongst friends 12 years ago, until now, it’s hard to believe how much the event has grown.

“New Zealand Fashion Week is a small business which offers designers a platform on which to show off their talents. Over the past ten years we’ve seen the industry develop from just a handful of our top designers having any real international experience, to now, when many of them have successful, well organised and focused businesses.

“The most satisfying part of running this business is seeing these success stories develop and our New Zealand designers doing well, especially breaking into new international markets,” said Stewart.

International guests including designer Nicole Miller, blogger Rumi Neely, model Krista White and stylist Derek Walburton are sure to be highlights to watch out for this week.
