The New Gen show at Fashion Week on 1st September 2011 showcased several young labels from NZ up-and-coming designers.

A highlight was Katie-Maree Cole’s show, quite.contrary, influenced by ‘Little House on the Prairie’ and harks back to earlier days.

Katie Coleman says her Winter 2012 collection is "influenced by the feminine aesthetic of ‘Little House on the Prairie’ and simpler times when you used to wait for letters to arrive and nights were spent knitting by the fire."

The collection is based on a simple silhouette that is sweet and elegant with earthy tones in luxurious wools and silks and pops of orange merino and coloured checkered shirting.

"In a slower paced world it’s the simple pleasures in life and this is portrayed in a focus on detailing with beautiful gold buttons and handmade lace aprons and bonnets" she says.

Thread.co.nz’s favourite look in the collection is this lace doily and floaty skirt in shades of nude and cream.

Katie-maree Cole launched her first directional range for Summer 2011 alongside the launch of her website www.katiemareecole.com
