Kathryn Wilson, Ronald McDonald House Auckland’s ambassador for Fashion Week, had her shoes walk the runway at Saturday’s Designer Selection Show held on 8th September for the charity.
The Designer Selection Show gala event was MCd by Sara Tetro, who gave a speech without notes straight from her heart about she got invloved with the charity. Sara was in an airport line when she met another mum and struck up a conversation, now a friendship, and has been many times to Ronald McDonald House and seen firsthand what they do in supporting families at times of pain and grief with sick children at Starship hospital nearby.
Now, the house is raising money for the Grafton Mews family accommodation facility. Kathryn Wilson said “I met Ronald McDonald House Auckland’s CEO Wayne at a charity dinner one night and was shocked to learn that it costs in excess of $4 million each year to run the House. I decided there and then that I wanted to get involved and help this remarkable charity in whatever way I could.”
The show was emotional and real, and – unlike much at fashion week – felt very genuine. The commercial they screened of the families almost had me in tears, as did Sara Tetro’s speech. This is truly a great cause to get behind, and what a fun way to do it!
The Adagio performers opened the fashion show with an acrobatic dance, dressed as cats.
