A hearty breakfast is important for the spirited girl this latest Ruby collection, The Adventurers, was clearly created for. What a better way to start the day than with muesli, yoghurt and Rosemount Ruby O bubbles; such was the spread put on at the Ruby early morning salon show of their AW11 collection.
Inspired by the likes of cult comic book character Tintin and friends, (no doubt with all their escapades and adventures breakfast would have been an integral part of their day), this collection is full of colours that remind of those cherished stories. Ochre, berry and forest green complemented soft mushrooms and the token crisp Tintin jumper blue.
The forest green worked in surprisingly well with the collection. An unusual colour and usually quite hard to work with but in this instance it leaves one wanting more, with the hope this hue will be used more once the clothes hit the stores. The Chester shirred pants will surely be a popular seller.
The chunky turtle neck has made a comeback it seems, as Ruby is not the first to show the previously banned to the 90s neckline. But it has been done tastefully and fits in seamlessly and inconspicuously with the classic duffle coats, metallic zig-zag prints and long pile knits.
An eclectic mix of classic sixties tunics, patent raincoats and hats, shirred jumpers and skirts, free-flowing sheer dresses, checks, pleats and floor scraping skirts came together in a collection outshining many a show seen this week.
This collection will no doubt be a hit with their usual customer base but also with those searching for that ‘find’ of an item with a high-end feel but without the unattainable price tag. And at Ruby, they always ensure there’s enough left for that all-too-important breakfast. Now, may the adventure begin.
