RUBY released their new label, liam, at New Zealand Fashion Week 2011.

Designed by Emily Miller-Sharma, the womenswear line with a man’s name is a sophisticated yet laidback label. It complements the more youthful RUBY line, and its typeface is in lowercase in contrast to RUBY’s capitals.

"She is playful and strong, distinctly modern with classic touches" the team at Ruby say. "Liam is intrigued by the creativity and stories behind women and what they choose to wear. Meaning ‘strong protector’, liam offers a unique take on modern femininity."

The liam AW12 collection entitled ‘FIRST’ came down the catwalk to the live sounds of Watercolours – the band of the lead singer from Teacups – with a simple but bright palette.

We liked the pretty golden shorts, seen below with the afternoon delight shirt, and in heavy brocade gold lace, the to symbolise top and to symbolise skirt.

A stand-out in eye-popping orange, we loved the blooming print, in a tunic, top and skirt, seen below.

The brights and prints were all teamed with laid back neutrals.

With its shots of intense teal and cobalt blue in pretty separates – we loved it all.

The black tie dress in teal silk will be the dress to be seen in next winter. With its perfect simple lines and low scooped back, is pretty close to perfect evening wear.

The show finished with the sharp tailoring of the piqued blazer in black. Slick.
