She's got legs

Sole sister Kathryn Wilson sent Robert Palmer leotard-clad models walking down a raised fashion week catwalk for her AW11 footwear collection; all very red, black and white and very rock ‘n roll…

Kathryn Wilson’s debut solo show was nothing that had ever been done before, solely (no pun intended – Ed) because an individual shoe collection has never been shown before at fashion week.

The audience was treated to a behind-the-scenes short clip of models getting ready for the show on white screens hoisted above their heads. It was all very red, black and white rock ‘n roll, and very cleverly led to the first model strutting down the raised catwalk through a powerful entrance.

All the models wore black long sleeved body suits with slicked back, high-pony, horse like hair and blood red lipstick. It served as a reminder for all those watching that whatever their size, they will never look good in a skin tight, pant-less outfit, in spite of how good their shoes are.

And these shoes were, as expected, rather good. The first stand out pair were the cream lace up boots with giant tongue and loose folded down sides. A kind of tramper meets white wedding feel.

Lots of wooden soled clog like boots and heels came out, slightly difficult to walk in, but very on-trend right now. Whether people can still hack the pain in their toes from clog hopping by winter next year remains to be seen.

A few ‘focus piece’ pairs walked down the runway; a black and silver leopard print pattern on speed stood out. The fire orange peep-toe suede ankle boot wedge should also be mentioned; an item already on the wish list for next season if the bank account will allow it.

Bold colours, bold shapes and small details brought the collection together to be a successful mishmash of everything in shoes that is hip and now, mixed with a bit of future foresight.
