Starfish goes Stardust

Starfish – more famous for its eco sustainability – took a leaf out of Ziggy Stardust’s book for its Fashion Week show ‘Lunatopia’ with its most glam show in years, and a star-studded runway.

Lunatopia is inspired by "the rock and roll revolutionaries, style icons and shooting stars who have changed their world by daring to dream big." Starfish’s partners for New Zealand Fashion Week 2011 are other eco-minded businesses The Body Shop, Electrolux, Powershop and Project Crimson.

The catwalk was decorated with what looked like recycled billboard skins cut into stars and stuck down in a galaxy like a Hollywood Boulevard Walk Of Fame.

But instead of actors, two ‘housewives’ came out and did the cleaning! Two women with the flash new eco Electrolux vacuums came out and hoovered the catwalk; an original way to tie in a sponsor’s product, in a humorous manner which got all the camera phones out.

Once it was thoroughly ‘cleaned’, the fashion show began. Ziggy Stardust headbands added a touch of glam to worthy, eco fashion and wool felt boots.

Other touches of glamour came in shiny reverse pocket flaps, nice slim trou with a seamed seat, and a star print showing up on scarves and blazer lapels. I also liked the grey/green jacket with draped shoulders. There was a lot I would want to wear, and it was the best Starfish show in years.

Antonia Peebles thought this orange coat was gorgeous.

Cool camel slouchy pants with the Starfish star print scarf knotted at the waist- lovely.

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars” proclaimed the Oscar Wilde quote projected on the backdrop. I am glad this Starfish collection took a leap up towards the stars.
