I have to admit, I didn’t really understand a "winter swimwear show." Was it for jacuzzi parties on P Diddy’s yacht? Or for jetting off in to warmer climes come June in the Southern Hemisphere?

All became clear at the Surface Too Deep + Tigerlily SWIMSHOW on the runway at NZ Fashion Week 2013: it was a summer show, showing at fashion week – which is normally the place for next winter’s collections. Swimwear labels Tigerlily of Australia, and Surface too Deep of New Zealand, combined to showcase their in-season Summer 13/14 collections with Chaos & Harmony footwear on models.

Models’ hair was by Toni & Guy and makeup by Smashbox. To change the models’ look between brands, makeup artists applied a bindi style silver crystal sticker to their foreheads and a nose stud to complement the Bali beach babe vibe. I’m unsure how many makeup artists were kept busy applying fake tan to all the wintry bodies backstage.

The audience was commenting on the broad smiles of all the models – which is highly unusual- and, less happily, of the men who moved to the front row and recorded videos of the swimwear models on their mobiles the whole time.

You can buy all these looks instore now for Spring Summer 2013/14.
