We have come to expect a lot from RUBY; they are consistently fabulous, consistently doing their own thing for the audience they seem to know so very well. Their shows are always one of the hottest tickets for fashion week, and this year was definitely no exception.
With the first time showing of their new label liam, which fits perfectly in the RUBY stable post-Madame Hawke, we got a double treat.
See our photos on Thread.co.nz of the liam fashion show here. See photos of the stylish RUBY guests in Street Chic on Thread.co.nz here.
After a breakfast and coffee at the massive Grey Lynn warehouse, and the liam debut show accompanied by local band Watercolours, the RUBY AW12 show entitled CAPITAL CITY began.
Pictured left: Editor’s favourite- the Metal Tunic; a metallic teal bodice dress with a tutu skirt.
Starting the RUBY collection was a show of neutrals: silver velvet pants, muted oranges, a deep grey asymetrical dress, a blue pantsuit – and then it brightened up with splashes of metallic teal in fabulous boots (which we loved), and a stunning teal coat.
Below: Ella from Clyne Models – also the model for their print catalogue – opened the show in the Turtle Blouse and Boxer Pant.

RUBY always include a playful animal tee and this season it’s a Dinosaur Sweater, worn here with the Capital Dress and those fantastic metallic boots.
A sunny egg yolk-yellow chunky knit was followed by the Block Dress; a beautiful cube print in cobalt, emerald and black.
ghd’s Guest Artist, Sara Allsop of Dharma Salon, lead the hair stylists for the RUBY and liam shows at NZFW 2011. Below: A close-up of the hair, gathered in at the nape of the neck, with the Puddle Dress.
Beauty was created by key make-up artist Nicole Thompson for M.A.C Cosmetics with the inspiration, "Fresh Futuristic Faces."
Add in there metallic bronze jeans, brown, and a dash of black, and you have an entire RUBY collection. A truly capital collection.
