Trelise Cooper AW11
NZ Fashion Week 22 September 2010
The Trelise Cooper AW11 show welcomed instant applause with the unveiling of a backdrop of “The Three Graces” in a stained glass window which announced the ecclesiastical influence and nod to Elizabethan and Medieval styling that blessed the show from start to end.
It may be time to break out those rosary beads as heavy crucifix crosses, gold beaded shoulder plates, heavy fringed necklaces and layers of heavy more organic shaped bracelets styled up the more simple draped pieces and made for a visual delight.
Below: stained glass windows inspired these decorative pieces.
Perhaps somewhat of a “Twihard”, Trelise showed a darker side with black tux bustle coats, a divine cropped cape jacket…
…and a series of incredibly crafted pieces made from layers and layers of black scalloped fabric which will no doubt be heavily favoured by the designer’s already cult following.
It wasn’t all dark and moody though with the inclusion of classic Trelise Cooper tailored suit-worthy separates, all with the quirky touches for which she is well-loved by the more mature of her customers.
The glamour girls about town were not forgotten. The short bronze and pewter sequins on tulle cocktail number may have felt slightly out of touch of the rest of the collection but is still bound to be the must-have party piece of the season.
Closing the show with a simple and brief appearance, it is so refreshing to see the hugely successful and seasoned designer taking the accolades with such a strong sense of grace and humility; up and coming designers take note.
