The man with the midas touch at the NZ Fashion Week Opening Party tonight was international stylist and blogger Derek Warburton.
His flared Sonia Rykiel trousers, a fabulous hue of sunshine, stood out a mile wide from the sea of black we’re so used to seeing at New Zealand fashion events. When lifting up his pant leg to show his to-die-for Yves Saint Laurent boots, we saw he really was the real deal, as even his socks were sparkling gold!
"I try not to wear black, it’s too dull," he said.
It’s rather fitting as he’s wearing new New Zealand label Neverblack his "favourite Kiwi designer" on The Breakfast Show tomorrow morning.
It wasn’t his pants however that stole the show. His out outgoing style perfectly matches his extroverted persona; friendly, professional and with a kind word to say of everyone. Upon meeting this man, you want to like him and it’s plain to see it’s not just put on for the cameras, this practiced pouter was born with personality.
Warburton knows he is fortunate to be living his life.
"I’m so lucky, I’m living my dream, but everyone should live their dream, because you can choose to live it," he said.
And he truly believes it, supporting charities and causes to encourage those less fortunate than himself to reach their potential.
Pieter Stewart invited the stylist to NZFW, and he was very excited when he heard about the opportunity.
"I had heard about it from Bryan Long, and I’ll do anything, the world is my oyster!"
He’s looking forward to watching lots of fun shows and is "just dying to go shopping" when he has the chance.
How on earth he’ll have any room to take more clothes back home is a mystery – he has at least two "outfit changes" for every day!
