Fitbit For Kids – I interview my daughter about her Fitbit Ace

Fitbit have release a wearable for kids to get them more active. I interview my daughter about the Fitbit Ace she’s been trialling and wearing to school and out and about to see what she thinks and how it’s affected her activity.

Are you worried about screen time for children keeping them from being active?  Do you think you were more active as a child than kids are today? “The challenge of inactivity with our children is not going away and is only estimated to get worse as they get older, dropping almost 40 minutes per year from ages 9 to 15,” said Chris Watts, executive director of the National Fitness Foundation.

If so, this might be perfect for your family. Fitbit has unveiled Fitbit Ace, their first wearable for kids, to encourage children 8 and older to increase their daily activity, as well as sleep tracking, motivating challenges with prizes and buttons for reaching activity goals, and the vital parental controls to safeguard kids’ privacy. Available at Fitbit.com for $149.95, and in stores including major retailers Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi.

INTERVIEW WITH MY DAUGHTER

How old are you?

8.

How often do you wear your Fitbit?

Every day. I’m allowed to wear it to school. And I constantly look at it. I hardly ever take it off. Every five days I go upstairs and plug in my Fitbit to a black charger on Mum’s desk.

What do you use it for?

Tracking my steps and telling the time and the date. When someone says the time, I say No, it’s 3.36. My mother doesn’t like being corrected.

Tell me about tracking your steps.

Yesterday on the 19th, I reached 10,000 steps for the first time. I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. I seriously thought those words to myself. The Fitbit had a star, fireworks, and then some more fireworks and I felt buzzing. I ran and told my parents and my brother.

Do you think you do anything differently since wearing Fitbit Ace?

I have been trying to stop watching as much TV and start running around the house in circles to get my steps up.

Would you recommend it to other kids?

I would recommend it to children who need to do more exercise. No offence. Because some people just do computer games and TV and not much exercise and running around and hiking and gymnastics. I think this would help a lot because it gets me wanting to get to my goal so by choice I want to run around.
