NEW FRAGRANCES: Red Door, Juicy Couture, Trilogy, UNTOLD, Invictus

In ON MY DESK this week we look at new fragrances by Red Door 25 by Elizabeth Arden, Juicy Couture, Jua by Trilogy, UNTOLD ABSOLU by Elizabeth Arden, and Invictus by Paco Rabanne.

Jua by Trilogy

What is it? First up, something a little different; Jua by Trilogy is the natural skincare brand’s first fragrance, and it’s a natural sunflower seed perfume oil benefiting the African-community based charity, ‘So They Can’. In Tanzania, So They Can (www.sotheycan.com) is teaching women efficient farming practices to grow sunflower seeds into a sustainable business and all profits go back into the project. Trilogy was their first sunflower seed oil customer and had it shipped to New Zealand and made into this fragrant perfumed oil. You can do good AND smell good.

What’s it like? It has top notes of bergamot, freesia and roses, middle notes of mint, frankincense and apricot, and a base of vanilla, cedarwood and vetyver.

How much is it? Jua retails for $24.90

Where can I buy it? At trilogyproducts.com and stockists nationwide including Farmers, pharmacies and department stores.

Red Door 25

What is it? Red Door 25 by Elizabeth Arden is a limited edition anniversary fragrance in celebration of a quarter-century of this iconic fragrance. It features a contemporary rendition of the classic red door glass bottle with golden detailing in a keepsake box. I like that they’ve used one of Red Door’s original creators, Master Perfumer Carlos Benaim to create this tribute.

What’s it like? It has top notes of blackcurrant, violet leaf absolute and rose water, a middle of Turkish rose, rose absolute, Indian jasmine and a base of honey with musk and patchouli.

How much is it? It retails for $99 for 100ml EDP

VIVA LA JUICY Gold Couture

What is it? Gold Couture is the latest in an undoubtably fab-glam pedigree with a fun, youthful vibe and a sexy fresh approach. It all started back in 2008 with Viva La Juicy and since then we’ve seen the release of Viva La Juicy La Fleur for romantics, and Viva La Juicy Noir for a night out. VIVA LA JUICY Gold Couture by Juicy Couture is perfect for lovers of over-the-top luxury, with its sensual fragrance, and decadent bottle in dotty mesh tulle bow. Dotty tulle! I am sure Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan would have had this as her signature perfume if only it had been around then. I also love the pink logo on a gold emblem on the bottle – so luxe-flash.

What’s it like? It opens with feminine wild berry notes then reveals a heart of honeysuckle and jasmine, and a base of golden amber and melted caramel with vanilla and sandalwood.

How much is it? It retails for $110 30ml EDP spray, $145 50ml EDP spray, $195 for 100ml EDP spray and there’s also a rollerball duo for just $35.

Where can I buy it? Available from 3rd October from Farmers, selected pharmacies and department stores.

UNTOLD ABSOLU

What is it? I adore this faceted bottle with its metal trim – it is so elegant and classic-with-a-twist. UNTOLD ABSOLU by Elizabeth Arden is the new sister fragrance to UNTOLD which launched a year ago to huge acclaim. This is described as a deeper, more sensual expression of the original UNTOLD> What that translates as in reality is the addition of elegant scents black raspberry and bergamot, and also fruity accents of red plum and ginger.

What’s it like? Floral notes of jasmine and narcissus, then Tahitian vanilla bourbon absolute and Benzion with a sensual base of cashmere woods and Brazilian Tonka absolute.

How much is it? $109 for 30ml EDP spray, $139 for 50ml EDP spray, and $159 for 100 EDP spray.

Where can I buy it? UNTOLD ABSOLU is available 26th September at all Elizabeth Arden counters nationwide, see www.elizabetharden.co.nz

Invictus Limited Edition Silver Cup by Paco Rabanne

What is it? Invictus is our only men’s fragrance in this column, and what a fragrance! It was released in 2013 and draws upon inspiration of demi-gods and athletes, and the success of victory that its trophy shaped bottle evokes. The latest men’s fragrance by Paco Rabanne is this stunning limited edition silver cup packaging. Invictus also has a fabulous marketing campaign around it with a competition between athletic men that you can watch online. Season 1 of Invictus Athletes is online and you can watch the winner Ricardo here www.pacorabanne.com/invictus

What’s it like? Fresh and woody, with a marine accord, grapefruit zest and bay leaves, joined with Guaiac wood, ambergris and patchouli to make it irresistable.

How much is it? $135 for 100ml eau de toilette.
