ON MY DESK – Food & Drink in August 2015

This ON MY DESK column stars some of the memorable food and drink releases to cross my path in August 2015…

It’s the intersection set of fashion and wine aka my happy place. Limited edition Brancott Estate wines in World of Wearable Art Awards bottles for 2015 are available 1st September for $17.29 each.

If you love starting your day with coffee, you’ll LOVE this- The Collective gourmet coffee probiotic yoghurt! I’m going to brew a Rocket Espresso and enjoy the coffee yoghurt.

On Thursday we headed to ASB Showgrounds in Ellerslie for the Food Show, to see the latest and greatest in everything food (and coffee, and wine, and more.) A highlight was being given some Leaderbrand beetroot as it’s quite possibly my favourite vegetable (along with pumpkin, I kid you not.) Photo by Lennie Law.

Warm winter salad I made with the veges from The Food Show and some organic sausages.

The best activity by far at The Food Show was the Nespresso coffee and food matching experience starring the incredible Chef Nic Watt from Masu restaurant in SkyCity Auckland.

Chef Nic Watt made Japanese omelette with whitebait, a nigiri sushi, and a dessert ball to finish, each paired with different coffees as a journey throughout the day.

Speaking of amazing food and wine, this Pinot Noir and Pod artisan chocolates arrived for the weekend, from Akarua Wine of Central Otago.

I’m enjoying an easy lunch today of smashed avocado on Venerdi organic sourdough. The bread is not only delicious but also dairy-free and gluten-free.

I baked some Granny Smith cinnamon turnovers the easy way, with squares of Paneton flaky pastry, slices of raw Granny Smith apple, and a sprinkle of cinnamon, and no sugar needed. Thanks to The Bubbalino blog’s Vanessa for Tweeting me the idea.
