It’s the first ON MY DESK column for the new year, bringing with it what’s new across my path on press releases and new skincare and beauty releases…

First up, this product is actually the most rose-smelling rose product I have possibly ever come across…

You lift the lid and kapow – you are assaulted with eau de rose. Even when it’s on your skin it is fragranced. Love it. My husband nicknamed La’Bonic Rose Repair Cream, "Bionic Rose Cream." It has 96% Biogro certified organic ingredients, no harsh chemicals or parabens, and is made in New Zealand. It retails for $55 for the night cream, available online at www.labonic.com

Who’s your biggest fan? This may be your smallest one…

In light of summer heat, the La Mav press delivery came with this mini battery fan for cooling beauty writers down in this weather. La Mav’s Hydra-Calm Cleansing Creme is another calming thing in this heat; the soothing cleanser with green tea, shea butter and jojoba oils is aimed at sensitive skin types and retails for $55 from stockists at www.lamav.com

Speaking of sensitive skin…

Trilogy has re-released, in (calming) white and nude packaging, its popular Sensitive range of Very Gentle Calming Serum, Cleansing Cream and Moisturising Cream. The new formulations are more effective at calming inflammation due to SyriCalm, a breakthrough botanical complex developed in Germany. They are fragrance-free, essential oil-free and dermatologically tested. Trilogy Sensitive retails for: cleansing cream $43.90, Calming Serum $44.90, and Moisturising Cream, $49.90, from Farmers and pharmacies. For stockists see www.trilogyproducts.com

And now, another ‘sensitive’ subject…

Cellulite. Clarins have released Body Lift Cellulite Smoother with a dual target: to attack early and stubborn cellulite, and to firm skin’s contours by stimulating the synthesis of new collagen fibres. It eliminates excess water with its effects on micro-circulation. On first application, it feels cool and refreshing and a ‘tightening’ effect. it is comfortable, absorbs well, and has a smooth feel. Body Lift Cellulite Smoother retails for $96 from mid-April from Clarins counters and online at www.adorebeauty.com.au

The Aroma Room Intimacy sensual and comforting body oil arrived in pink tissue paper trying to look coy but blatantly pulling the romance card for Valentine’s Day with its promises of sensual massages. With an exotic Oriental fragrance, with sandalwood and rose, bergamot and ylang ylang, you can of course use it as a body oil post-shower and moisturise your body. It retails for $39 from www.thearomaroom.co.nz, at Harvest Wholefoods, and Acajou Beauty Spa in Ponsonby.

For eyelashes…

Have you joined in the worldwide trend of fabulous eyelashes? No longer is mere mascara enough – and forget falsies – everyone is enhancing their lash lushness. Natural, moi?

Here are two of the latest in the lash growth market. Uberlash is an eyelash enhancing serum that apparently by all reports REALLY works. It has arrived in New Zealand after sucess in the UK with 96% of customers reporting longer lashes from Uberlash, and 93% saying they would use it again. An Uberlash tube lasts about four months, and you get results in around six weeks. It is in the pricier range, at $189, and is available now at selected pharmacies, department stores and beauty salons. Call 0800 144 562 for stockists.

I love the name of this eyelash serum – fLash – and it is such a good price, at $69. fLash is made in USA (hence the Spanish rather than usual French/German on the box). Apply applicator once per day from the outer corner of the eye to the inner corner, of the upper eyelids. There have been no reported eye colour changes with fLash, which is great, and it lasts approx six months. Available from selected department stores and online at www.mybeautystore.com

Disney sent over their new DVD with this sparkling tiara, which immediately found its way to my three year old daughter’s head. ‘Sofia the First: Once upon a Princess’ is Disney Junior’s first ever princess; the tale of an ordinary girl whose mother marries the king. I loved that Tim Gunn of Project Runway (Make it work!) shows her around her new suite at the castle – and of course, her wardrobe. The premiere of Sofia will be simulcast on 2nd February 2013 at 5.30pm on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

Sweet treats are always welcome especially when they arrive mid-afternoon. These colour-matched macarons arrived promoting the release of Nivea Lip Butterswhich come in unscented, vanilla & macadamia, and caramel cream. They are $5.49 each available from mid-April.

I really can’t get to sleep at night, so I am very much looking forward to trying these sleep aids.

GO Healthy is a brand I already use for multivitamins and so I was super keen to try the 5-HTP out for sleeping. Magnesium is well known as a balancing mineral and assisting energy, balancing blood sugar levels, and supporting healthy sleep. GO Healthy high-strength magnesium retails for $35 and has 500mg of natural, marine-sourced magnesium per tablet. GO 5-HTP seratonin support has natural ingredient derived from Griffonia Simplicifolia seeds, to support the healthy production of seratonin in the brain for well-being, good mood, and healthy sleep patterns. It retails for $20 from pharmacies, health stores, and online. See www.gohealthynz.co.nz

As I write, I’m having a cup of ‘Sweet Dreams Tea’ containing chamomile, valerian, lemon balm and stevia, from Red Seal (whose baking soda toothpaste I already use at home and rate) and trying Red Seal Zinc, B6 & Magnesium. The tablets not only support skin, hair and nails, and your immune system, but also sleeping. They have 30mg of Magnesium along with 9mg of Zinc and 25mg of B6 and retail for $9.64 from supermarkets. See www.redseal.co.nz for more information.

I’ll let you know how I go. Sweet dreams…
