In the latest ON MY DESK column I share what’s new to come across my path in new releases, new skincare, and beauty product releases. This week, we look at Besame, Antipodes, Karen Murrell, Oxygen, Radiance, Youngblood, River Veda, Inika, Dominate, and Kevin Murphy…..

On on the heels of the trend in 1920s glamour from The Great Gatsby, Besame Classic Color Lipstick brings old glamour in these beautifully packaged lipsticks. Pictured here is Besame in Noir Red ($40) – check out the Oriental-inspired Art Deco golden case. They’re available at www.besamecosmetics.com and we recommend getting them here in New Zealand from the Claire of The Vanity Case www.thevanitycase.co.nz in Wellington, and Rose Jackson of Decadia Vintage Beauty & Style in Auckland www.decadiavintage.com. Both Claire and Rose are offering The Great Gatsby Glamover for $80 in your own home with a full makeup and hair set in 1920 waves.

My favourite Woman Of Lipstick, Karen Murrell, has released this stunning new shade, Violet.mousse. The lilac-pink colour retails for $30 and is perfectly on trend right now. For stockist info see www.karenmurrell.com

Inika organic cosmetics has released a new and improved concealer, made with 75% certified organic ingredients, called Perfection Concealer. The concealer, which is $39.99, complements the certified organic liquid foundation ($69.99) which I am pretty much wearing constantly as it is so nice and dewy, with a good coverage. I got to try it out in a makeover with Inika’s makeup artist Michael Brown in Auckland recently. See the photos and full story on Thread here and buy Inika at selected pharmacies and health food stores. For stockists see www.inikacosmetics.co.nz

Oxygen natural New Zealand skincare has gorgeous new packaging seen on their Hand & Body Creme below, for women. The Oxygen range – which is created in Nelson, New Zealand – is free of parabens and nasties with no animal testing. For more info see www.oxygenskincare.co.nz

Having trouble sleeping? Yep me too – so I am keen to try these next two products.

Radiance Tart Cherry Sleep has pure Montmorency Cherry Concentrate in tablets to take an hour before bed. I’d also advise no computers an hour before bed (argh!)
Radiance is made by Albany-based company Health and Herbs, online at www.healthandherbs.co.nz

You could also try this new oil to sleep better at night. River Veda Unwind certified organic essential oil blend made with 100% certified organic ingredients. Add a 6-10 drops to a night time bath to unwind (as the name suggests) or to a vaporiser during the day, to relax and de-stress. Sounds perfect for many office environments I’ve witnessed. For more info on creator Megan Douglas’ brands River Veda and The Organic Skin Co see www.worldorganic.co.nz

Speaking of good night-time routines, one of my all-time fave New Zealand skincare companies Antipodes has released this gentle new cleanser and toner. Grace Gentle Cream Cleanser ($46.90) has organic avocado oil, marigold and pinot noir antioxidant perfect for sensitive skins (but can be used by all). Follow Grace with Antipodes Ananda gentle toner, containing mamaku black fern, Bulgarian rose and Waiwera mineral water, to give a moisture boost and gently soothe skin. See www.antipodesnature.com for stockists.

Tired of mushroom and beige eyeshadow? Get on the bright colour trend with Youngblood Incredible Wear Gel Liner in this sea green shade, ‘Lagoon.’

Speaking of fun new colours, the Kevin Murphy color.bug hair chalks are a non-committal way to experiment with hair colour and wash it out. The lates color.bug is Shimmer, a bronzey gold hair shadow to add bronze highlights. I tried it this week; I have honey-blonde hair and it went a bit darker, more bronze. Available at salons including Pony Professionel in Newmarket. See www.kevinmurphy.com.au for stockists.

Another fun hair product is the ‘pheromones’ hair resin in the Dominate men’s hair product line. The affordable hair gels and creams come in large tubs for $9.99 and small travel size tubs, from supermarkets and online at www.dominatehair.com and have just released two new products: Dominate Matte Waxx and Hard Set Resin. Dominate contains no parabens, sulphates or animal testing.
