You’ve heard of the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland? Well this week’s column is devoted to what’s new in haircare products, in ON MY DESK: March Hair

Kevin Murphy Rough Rider

Its point of difference: When he saw the sleek, almost military case style of the new Kevin Murphy Rough Rider packaging, my man immediately nabbed it and I had to hunt it down to shoot it for this story. The strong hold matte clay draws on the heritage of the Teddy Boys in 1950s London with their extreme hairstyles but in a very contemporary formulation that stimulated hair growth and soy bean for nourishing hair. It is $48 from stockists nationwide, ph 0800 CREW 66.

ELEVEN Australia Sea Salt Texture Spray

Its point of difference: beachy waves without the crunchy texture.

You can use it on wet or dry hair and it brings body while keeping hair soft. ELEVEN Sea Salt is $32 from selected salons.

Joico Texture Boost

Its point of difference: It’s a dry sprax wax that’s malleable while it gives texture. You spray it on, then can keep moving hair while you style it – it won’t set hard like some sprays. Joico Texture Boost is $26 from selected salons throughout NZ.

Clairol Color Radiance

Its point of difference: Clairol’s exclusive Radialux Micro-Ions technology which targets the damaged areas of hair to nourish. It’s a complete coloured-hair, salon-only range – for only $16.90 each. Pictured below: Clairol Professional Color Radiance Intensive Mask. Available at selected salons.

Ecru New York

Its point of difference: Ecru New York is an exciting new hair range to arrive in New Zealand from NYC. Jason Sherwood from Ecru was recently over in Auckland, to share about the range. It’s a nutrient-rich formulation with beautiful, handwriting-inspired packaging that lends it a vintage yet modern look. Ecru hair products contain silk proteins that form a transparent protective film to seal the hair cuticle increasing elasticity, natural shine and further preventing damage to the hair. www.ecrunewyork.com

Techni.art

L’Oreal Professionel Techni.art has launched this brand new packaging for 2014.

Its point of difference: The Keith Haring-inspired illustrations bring a urban street look and contemporary feel to this popular range. Techni.art retails for $34.50 each from L’Oreal salons nationwide.

Nioxin

It’s point of difference: Instead of taking 6 months to grow new hairs like some hair loss treatments, Nioxin makes each hair strand thicker, giving the visual illusion of having 11,000 more hair strands. It’s really affordable, with a 30 day trial set of 3 products retailing for $59. For stockists see www.nioxin.com or phone 0508 493 552.

OSIS+ Refresh Dust

Its point of difference: OSIS have released a 300ml Refresh Dust at the same price as their old 100ml can of $29.20. That’s 3 times the value. Call 0800 930 930 for stockists.

OSIS+ Whipped Wax

Its point of difference: It’s a wax that’s as light as a mousse. Also, who can resist stuff that comes in a shiny red tin? OSIS+ Whipped Wax retails for $29.40 from selected Schwarzkopf salons. Call 0800 930 930 for stockists.

Wella Velvet Amplifier and Pearl Styler

Its point of difference: Wella Professionals have the best graphic packaging, and sleek aluminium canisters, encasing top class styling products that you can use at home. My pick is Velvet Amplifier with its fine serum for a smooth result. Pearl Styler is a styling gel with a pearlised finish. Available from stockists at ph 0508 493 552.

FUDGE Root Juice

Its point of difference: FUDGE Root Juice $25.50 boosts your roots while protecting from UV damage. Now, let’s go to the other end of your hair – FUDGE Ends $24.50 is a conditioning cream to repair damaged split ends and seal them. Ph 0800 604 604.

FUDGE tubs

Its point of difference: It’s been around on the market since their first Hair Shaper launched 21 years ago, and nowadays the tubs have branched into Lite, Fat Hed, and Hair Putty, for different strengths of hold. All $22 each from Fudge salons nationwide. Phone 0800 604 604 for stockists.

Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde

Its point of difference: It’s a new lightening spray you can use at home to take your hair 1 to 2 shades lighter. Use it to refresh your blonde hair and to touch-up. Available at supermarkets.
