An art print with my name on it and a uniquely painted ABSOLUT UNIQUE bottle came from Absolut Vodka. Just 4,800 bottles will be available in New Zealand, created ina carefully orchestrated randomness of both human and mechanical effort.

ABSOLUT UNIQUE will be available in NZ from mid-November for $54.99 from leading liquor outlets.

This little guy showed up inviting me to opening night of Taste of Auckland on Thursday 15th November. Follow Twitter for updates on @TasteofAuckland. The public festival celebrates the best of food from local restaurants, and is held in Victoria Park. Below: me at Taste of Auckland’s Mexico stall. I’m definitely going back next year.

If you’re wondering what to get your friends for Christmas that will make the world a better place, try a Gift for Life from Tearfund. Their ‘Handle the Jandal’ for $5 means that young children in the Philippines who have to walk for up to two hours to get to school will be gifted a pair of new jandals and prevent them getting cuts and infections. There’s also a ‘Woolly Jumper (Sheep)’ for $45 to provide a struggling family in Niger, West Africa with milk everyday but will also give them offspring to sell at the market to buy produce and clothes and a ‘Got Milk?’ for $100 to provide poor Sri Lankan farmers with proper milk cans, storage training and a chilling centre so milk can be properly stored and sold.

Surf Life Saving NZ is launching a new SPF50+ sunscreen range in New Zealand, with $1 from the sale of each sunscreen going to the iconic institution to help protect swimmers at our beaches. It retails for $9.99 for 75ml clip bottle to $24.99 for 400ml pump bottle.

I’ve had so many comments from people about this pretty nail colour. It’s ‘Devonport" (they are all named for towns) by Linden Leaves in their handcream gift set Linden Leaves Aromatherapy Synergy Manikit, retailing for $39.99 from Linden Leaves stockists, their flagship store at 317 Parnell Road, or www.lindenleaves.com

When you want to take it all all off, Revitanail actually works; I had tried my pro nailpolish remover – starting with O – and it didn’t take off my salon manicure (read: layers of hard-as-nails polish) and these little beauties – Revitanail Conditioning Remover Wipes – did the trick, in a few wipes. They are a bargain beauty buy at $7.90 from selected pharmacies and department stores nationwide.

While we’re talking about hands, here’s a totally gorgeous hand cream to try. Savar, a New Zealand natural skincare brand that launched just last year, has released Savar Advanced Hand Repair ($38). Vicky Woolford of Savar says it is an intensive hand cream that is formulated with avocado oil which is deeply moisturising and penetrates cuticles stopping them from drying out and looking untidy. You can buy it at www.savaronline.co.nz

Speaking of bargain beauty, Nivea has a paraben-free range priced around the $12 mark, in response to customer demand for paraben-free skincare they can afford. NIVEA Pure & Natural has three creams, a cleanser, toner and facial wipes from $10 to $13. They are free from silicones, artificial colours and mineral oils, and 95% ingredients from natural origin. Available now from supermarkets and Nivea stockists.
