Here’s what’s new in our latest ON MY DESK column featuring new skincare and beauty in June 2015 from Trilogy, Goodness, Living Nature, Jimmy Choo, Lifestream, Manuka Doctor, and VS Sassoon.
Goodness chia facial oil
My husband has been eating chia seeds on his oat porridge every morning so we are already familiar with the superfood and it was fantastic to see this chia facial oil now on the market. It is Trilogy brand’s (Trilogy rosehip, Ecoya candles and now Goodness chia skincare) entry into the Grocery channel with this brand, aptly named Goodness (not the easiest thing to find on Google as it’s such a common word, but easy to find in New World and selected Farmers, see www.goodnessproducts.com for stockists). The Goodness chia brand is launching with five everyday popular products: a facial oil – Organic Chia Seed Oil $23.95 20ml, a day cream – Every Morning Moisturiser $19.95 75ml, a night cream – Every Evening Cream $23.95 75ml, a cleanser – Every Day Cream Cleanser $19.95 75ml, and a scrub – Every Week Face Scrub $15.95 75ml. You’ll notice the title of each, tells you how often to use each product.
Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Body Cream
The popular Trilogy brand is a massive success locally and expanding into Asia too, and will pay its first dividend after profits quadrupled this year to 4.5million. Its success is due to many factors but on a consumer level, users love its natural, proudly locally-made, cruelty-free products and they keep releasing new innovations and also reformulate existing products in response to the market. This latest from Trilogy – who are most well-known for their rosehip facial oil – is Ultra Hydrating Body Cream, infused with the signature rosehip oil and newly reformulated for deeper hydration and nourishment for skin. I used it and loved it – felt rich and creamy. $29.90 150ml available from selected Farmers, pharmacy, health stores and department stores. trilogyproducts.com
Lifestream Vitamin C
I really like this Lifestream brand of health supplements as they use 100% natural form of Vitamin C containing naturally-occurring Vitamin C co-factors, to ensure maximum absorption into your body. You may add the powder to water, juice, or cold food (such as cereal.) As you will probably be aware, it’s great to take Vitamin C to help with health in winter time when you’re susceptible to colds and your immune system is under stress. It is free from dairy, soy, gluten and wheat, and is sourced from certified organic Acerola Berry; a superfood which protects cells from free radical damage and supports collagen formation for skin, teeth and gums. $34.90 60g powder, $32.50 90 vegecaps or $65.50 220 vegecaps available from selected pharmacies and health food stores www.lifestream.co.nz
Savar Spa Ultra Nourishing Body Butter – Ginger & Lime
Savar Spa has such beautiful premium-level face and body products, all cruelty-free and 99% natural and made from botanical ingredients, here in New Zealand by Savar founder, Vicky Woolford. This body butter not only feels amazing, it smells absolutely divine with this citrusy and creamy concoction that contains NZ blackcurrant seed oil, organic bilberry, lime flower, lemon balm, organic goji berries and marshmellow extract. Savar Ultra Nourishing Body Butter in Ginger & Lime (pictured below) and also in Pacific Coconut, is $45 available at www.savaronline.com and selected leading retailers.
Living Nature Sensitive Skin Range
Kerikeri-based New Zealand natural skincare brand Living Nature has good news for those with sensitive skin, with the launch of its new sensitive skin range. They are doing free sampling now at their website www.livingnature.com so you can try before you buy, which is especially useful for those with sensitive skin who have been ‘burned’ literally and metaphorically before by harsh products! The gentle, natural new range launches with four products, all retailing at $38 each: cleanser, day cream, night cream, and toner. The range is perfectly pH balanced and uses botanical hero ingredients including Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Harakeke Flax Extract and Avocado Oil, to nurture the integrity of skin’s barrier function, visibly restoring elasticity while visibly reducing redness, signs of ageing and trans-epidermal water loss. The packaging is also really fresh and clean looking with a green flax plant on a white background in a grass-green cardboard packet. Available at stockists and online see www.livingnature.com
Manuka Doctor UMF Manuka Honey and ApiRefine Lip Enhancer
Readers of Thread will know of my love for Manuka Doctor products, and this honey which I have been enjoying in lemon honey hot drinks for a few years now. Now it’s winter, this will be on high usage rotation. Their lip enhancer is a new product to me. I’m wearing this on my lips right now and it was tingly at first and has now settled to a nice hydrating film. It utilises patented Purified Bee Venom which is bee-friendly (does NOT hurt bees in its collection) and is infused with Hyaluronic Acid to rejuvenate lips for a smooth and plump finish.
Manuka Doctor ApiNourish Rejuvenating Face Mask
Manuka Doctor ApiNourish Rejuvenating Face Mask puts the power of bee venom to work in a nourishing level in this gorgeous product. It helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with key active ingredients purified bee venom and UMF 18+ manuka honey. Use it after cleansing over the entire face and neck, leave for 15-30 minutes then wipe off with a damp cloth. Manuka Doctor UMF Manuka Honey, Rejuvenating Face Mask $84.95 for 50ml and ApiRefine Lip Enhancer $29.95 for 15ml is available online www.manukadr.co.nz and at their flagship store in downtown Auckland at 1 Quay Street.
JIMMY CHOO Blossom
The footwear designer legend Jimmy Choo clearly knows how to make women happy from top to toe with his line of fragrances complementing the wardrobe of women who adore his shoes. This latest women’s fragrance, Blossom, is sparkling and vivacious, described as “the sip of a first cocktail, the clinking of glasses with the girls, the sexy soundtrack on the dance floor.”
The floral fragrance opens with bright and sparkling top notes of red berries blended with a citrus cocktail. A delicate heart of sweet pea and rose complements rich and sensual base notes of white musk and sandalwood. Fragrance Notes:
Top Notes: Sweet Pea, Rose; Heart Notes: Berries, Citrus, Cocktails; Base Notes: White Musk, Sandalwood.
VS Sassoon Secret Curl Silicone Pop up Rollers
VS Sassoon Secret Curl silicone pop up rollers are a clipless hair-curling roller in two sized for larger looser curls or tighter spiral curls. Soft curls can be obtained by using a shorter heat-up time and removing rollers soon after you have completed your set. The amount of hair per section will determine the tightness of the curl: For firm curls, use small sections of hair; for soft, loose curls, use larger sections of hair. Simply heat, roll, click, repeat then unwind for the perfect curl every time. After using Secret Curl Hairsetter several times, you will find the best timing suitable for the texture of your hair and for attaining the particular style desired. VS Sassoon Secret Curl silicone pop up rollers retails for $119.99 at Farmers, Harvey Norman and selected retailers. See www.vssassoon.co.nz for more info and stockists.
