For those with problems of skin pigmentation – whether from sun exposure hormones or medication – a gentle skincare product is a must. The fabulous Australian organic science skincare brand La Mav has a new bio-active day creme targeting skin discolouration using licorice root and Rumex Occidentals to brighten skin. La Mav Rumex Advanced Lightening Day Crème is $66.90 available from selected pharmacies, department stores, spas and healthfood stores and www.lamav.com

OLAY Regenerist has added a night resurfacing elixir that they say gives comparable results to a professional light chemical peel in just seven days. The Regenerist Elixir exfoliates and hydrates skin overnight while you sleep. It is the first daily leave-on, night treatment available in the mass market that contains Glycolic acid. It retails for $49.99 from selected pharmacies and supermarkets.

Dr.Hauschka has formulated a Rejuvenating Serum aimed at mature skin using quince seed extract and other anti-oxidant rich botanicals selected for regenerating skin. It refines the appearance of red and irritated skin and is ideal for sensitive skin types. It is free from mineral oils, parabens, synthetic chemical fragrances and PEG. Wherever possible, ingredients are sourced from controlled organic or Demeter biodynamic cultivation, and are never animal tested. The Rejuvenating Serum is $149 from Farmers, and selected pharmacies, healthfood stores and department stores nationwide.

The gorgeous New Zealand-made Savar skincare brand has been developed by Vicky Woolford – also a talented painter, whose artwork appears on the labels of all Savar products. Savar launched in 2011 and she has just released a 99% Natural Antioxidant Night Cream with pomegranate for anti-ageing, and blackcurrant seed oil to repair damage. The night cream retails for $64 from leading beauty retailers, beauty therapists, and online at www.savaronline.com

La Prairie has expanded its Advanced Marine Biology Collection with anti-ageing products priced at a more affordable pricepoint for this premium luxury brand. The five products have prevention at their core – after all, it’s better than cure – utilising algae and structural hydration ingredients, as well as La Prairie’s exclusive Cellular Complex. The starting point is the Advanced Marine Biology Foaming Mousse Cleanser ($100) and the range includes Eye Gel, Day Cream SPF20, Tonic, and Marine-Derived Algae Empower Multi-Tasking Moisturizer.

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum is the latest addition to their 2011 anti-ageing Rapid Wrinkle Repair range, giving the fast results of a serum for women who don’t want to waste any time. It has a fast-acting, non-irritating Retinol SA formulation and Hyaluronic Acid, with a Glucose Complex. The new serum is $39.99 from pharmacies, supermarkets and department stores.

Weleda has released two new body lotions in time for warmer weather: Pomegranate Regenerating as part of its mature skin range, and Citrus Hydrating for normal skin. They retail for $33.90 for large 200ml sizes, and a mini size collection of four types for $24.90, available from selected health food stores, pharmacies, and online at www.weleda.co.nz

I adore Ecoya candles around my home, so I was delighted to see they have released Ecoya handcreams, which are available at Farmers beauty departments. I have the vanilla bean handcream with nourishing macadamia nut oil on now and it smells heavenly.

Dove Pink continues its popular Breast Cancer Foundation pink ribbon products for the seventh year, with $1 from every specially-marked purchase from October 2012 going to NZBCF. They have raised over $300,000 to date.
