Dress? Check. Shoes? Check. Handbag? Check. You’re all sorted for the big date tonight.
But what about your skin? Nothing finishes your look better than a healthy, glowing complexion and the right skincare routine is the best place to start to achieve it. Did you know your skin is your body’s largest organ, about two square metres in size? it’s so important to learn how to care for it well.
Here are some top tips to care for your skin in these easy-to-follow video tutorials about how to look after your skin properly.
Firstly, identify what type of skin you have. Is it normal, oil, dry, or combination skin? Once you have identified the type of skin you have, the next step is to use a skincare regime that is specifically designed for that type, but also a regime designed to be used together i.e. a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer.
Your skin type – Introduction to the series
So, let’s get started. Did you know you shouldn’t use soap, or shower gel on your face? Let’s take a look at cleansing.
We’ve identified whether we have normal, oil, dry, or combination skin. Next up, do you prefer a lotion, or a gel? Use fingertips or a makeup cotton pad to gently remove makeup and cleanse your face. Around the eyes, use a special eye makeup removing cleanser on a cotton pad. Next, apply toner to your whole face by gently patting with toner on a cotton pad. It’s job is to restore proper pH to your skin. This will restore the skin’s natural properties, and condition it to absorb moisturiser more effectively.
How to cleanse
The third step in our daily 3-step regime, is of course, moisturising. We’re going to look at applying lotion first, then learn about day and night creams. The way you apply lotion is important. Start at the corners of your mouth, or chin, and apply in circular motions to the cheekbones, and then more gently, towards your ears, and lower jaw. The eye area massage shown is one of the all-time best wrinkle prevention strategies! Watch the technique in the video below by clicking on the picture below.

Have you wondered why there are different moisturisers for day and for night time? It’s because your skin has different functions at day and night, and the creams have varying functions relating to the time of day. For instance, a day cream’s vital purpose is to protect; to help deal with protection from UV radiation, drying out, free radicals, and stress. However, at night when you’re asleep, your skin is working harder than ever, on cell division and repair. Its aim: regeneration. Here’s video 4.
