River Veda Everyday Carefree Cleansing Milk ($34) is an ECOCERT organic cosmetic cleanser that’s mild and creamy and gentle enough to use everyday. We like that it’s more than a skincare product; the River Veda brand’s use of essential oils helps the mind as well as the body. It includes botanicals evening primrose and jojoba oils to replenish skin, and orange essential oil to lift the spirits. See www.riverveda.com for stockists.
Grown Facial Cleanser with geranium leaf, bergamot and rosebud ($39.95) – this is the cleanser I have personally been using all through summer. It’s a foaming gel cleanser and takes off my make-up and eye make-up really well. The brown glass pump bottle lasts forever.
Also in the Grown range of bio-active, organic skincare, is the Grown Facial Exfoliant ($44.95) with peppermint, jojoba microbead and juniper berry, to clear dead skin cells 2-3 times a week. See www.grown.com for stockists.
Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser ($112) is perfect for very sensitive skins or those who have had their skin resurfaced, as it is an extremely gentle pH-balanced gel-cream. It contains botanicals raspberry, lavender, coneflower and cucumber to calm and cool the face. See www.dermalogica.co.nz for stockists.
Sodashi Clay Cleanser with Lavender is what I’m using this autumn as it feels so calming and relaxing. Its major botanical is lavender and all Sodashi products contain no animal products or testing, no mineral oils, and they are chemical free. it is part of Sodashi’s Rejuvenate series. I find it extremely gentle and immediately feel calmer myself, after using it to wash my face at night. It’s a lovely calming-down part of your bedtime routine and smells divine. See www.sodashi.com for stockists.
Also on the clay theme, Australian botanical brand La Mav has released La Mav DNA Phyto-Guard Pink Clay Mask ($54.95) with Vitamin E, Seabuckthorn and acai oil. In fact the delightful ‘pink clay’ concept inspired this shoot outside on my pink clay bricks! It is in this gorgeous tube with illustrations drawn from nature on the packaging. Botanicals used in the pink clay mask include aloe leaf juice, rosehip oil, lavender, jojoba seed oil, and seabuckthorn, as well as the titular base of pink clay. It’s part of their Age-Defense series of products, so best for mature skins concerned with ageing. La Mav is certified organic, and free from petrochemicals, parabens, sulphates, talc, silicones and synthetics. See www.lamav.com for stockists.
A perenially-popular favourite is Pure Fiji. Now for the first time, they’re adding a face care line to their body care range.
I found this quote from Pure Fiji’s Carla Konik interesting; "Most cosmetics are in a base of water amounting to 85- 90%. Pure Fiji’s new facial care range uses hydrosols as a base enhancing the performance of the products, this means your skin is absorbing the benefits….not water."
The new face care range is launching with the skincare holy trinity – cleanser, toner and moisturiser – and I’m sure they’ll add to these three before long. Pure Fiji Purifying Cleanser ($45) Pure Fiji Balancing Toner ($45) and Pure Fiji Hydrating Multi-Active Day Creme $69 are available from spas and resorts. See www.purefiji.com for stockists.
