I had no idea about the extent to which LUSH went with its ethical practices, until I attend their Christmas launch breakfast at The Conservatory.
The breakfast event for beauty media was aimed not only at showcasing the new gift and holiday colelctions but to educate NZ media on their cruelty-free and sustainable business practices which are really enviable. I was particularly impressed with their sLUSH Fund initiative, and the fact that unlike many brands that tout ‘cruelty-free’ yet use ingredients that are tested on animals, the entire LUSH supply chain of ingredients is also cruelty-free. You can get much more information on this and more, at their website, www.lush.co.nz
Complementing their environmental views, the breakfast food itself was designed to match key products with dishes catered for by raw food suppliers, Little Bird Unbakery.
I’ve always loved tyring gifts up in scarves since I lived in Japan and we took our lunchboxes tied in wraps each day, and gave gifts in furoshiki, scarf wraps. LUSH have taken on this tradition in two ways: customers can buy a real vintage scarf instores instead of a carry bag for their purchases and gifts, or a new scarf made from two recycled plastic bottles (around $7.) I was excited to learn that one of my all-time favourite fashion designers Vivienne Westwood is collaborating with LUSH to create a scarf out later this year with proceeds going to their International Climate Revolution campaign.
