Counting the pennies? Walk the aisle!

There’s a world of skincare and haircare products right under your nose at the supermarket that’s worth taking a second look at.

We check out what’s new in your supermarket aisles for beauty that has a lot of bang for its buck.

Cos we all love putting a little treat just-for-ourselves in the shopping basket.

It’s nice to treat yourself to beautiful hair and skin care, and it doesn’t have to cost more than a bottle of wine in many cases, with these big brands bringing out clinically proven ranges with many of the key ingredients found in big budget brands, perhaps in lower concentrations and cheaper packaging. So here’s what’s new…

OLAY Total Effects Cooling Essence

The cooling moisturiser contains glycerol and proven age-fighting VitaNiacin complex to refresh the skin from within, and mint extracts to provide a breezy feeling.

To combat the greasy feel that women reportedly are dissatisfied with in their moisturisers, Cooling Essence is formulated with a lighter feel that absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave the skin feeling heavy and oily.

The lightweight yet advanced daily moisturizer retails for $32.99 for 50g.

Health Basics Moisturising Crème

New Zealand-made Health Basics Moisturising Crème has re-launched with a stylish new packaging that belies its price tag of $6.49.

They have three new and improved formulas: Hydraboost for intense hydration with Shea Butter, Red Algae Extract and Glycerin, Skinfirm for uplifting and skin firming with shea butter, collagen and firming plant extracts, and Moistrepair for dry and sensitive skin with Shea Butter, Argan Oil and Chamomile Oil.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter

The new range of skincare from Vaseline includes Deep Conditioning Body Lotion ($8.89) and Smoothing Body Butter ($11.99) with rich cocoa butter to smooth away dryness and roughness and melt into skin easily leaving a cocoa butter fragrance.

Vaseline Ambassador, actress Kate Ritchie, told Thread.co.nz, "I have found that when using the Cocoa Butter line of lotions you can often skip putting on your perfume for the day. It has such a warm, luxurious fragrance that it is nice to let that be your scent. I have had many compliments!"

TRESemme 24 Hour Body

Ideal for NZ conditions with its humidity-resistant properties, TRESemme 24 Hour Body range is so-named as it holds hair for 24 hours. The range includes blowdry products Root Boosting Spray and Sculpting Spray Gel, a Finishing Spray hairspray and a volumising Amplifying Mousse, which all retail for $9.30 each.

TRESemme 24 Hour Body Shampoo and Conditioner are $13.90 each.

NIVEA

2010 sees new packaging and formulations from this classic brand; many women’s favourite. NIVEA has advanced the original formula of its phenomenally-selling Q10Plus ($19.45) by optimising the UV filters so there’s a better balance of UVA and UVB filters in the anti-wrinkle cream.

They have also increased the Creatine levels in DNAge Cell-Renewal Anti-Age ($23.69), using more of this natural micro-peptide which increases collagen production and counteracts collagen breakdown from ageing and UV.

So pop some beauty into your shopping basket. Walking the aisle just got a whole lot more beautiful!
