Beauty News: Clinique launches new Turnaround Revitalizing range

When I hear the words “turnaround” I immediately hear the song in my head “turn around, every now and then I get a little bit lonely and then you’re never coming round. Turn around” by Bonnie Tyler in Total Eclipse of the Heart. Now that you have that “ear worm” in your head, I shall carry on! Well, your skin will be doing a turn around, with this cell-renewing line, launched by Clinique to reveal beautiful new skin. The name itself references the cellular turnaround that your skin undergoes during sleep and this range supports that natural repair function. Thus, the idea behind this franchise is its Energy Boost Technology boosts your skin cells’ natural renewal which has been adversely affected by environmental aggressors such as pollution, and stress and tiredness.

When I think of Clinique, like many of us, I think back to the original 3-step routine of bar soap, toner, and Dramatically Different yellow moisturiser, that got me started on my skincare journey in my teens. But it’s not just about the 3-step regime; Clinique grows and matures with its customer through the years and has an admirable selection of anti-ageing and revitalizing products such as the ones pictured here. It’s also good to see the skin type testing consultation they do – in those famous white lab coats that look so professional and scientific- applies throughout the product rages; for instance, the Turnaround overnight Moisturizer is suitable for skin types 1-3 (I am skin type 2, I remember from being analysed years back in London!) And who has used and loved the famous Clinique Moisture Surge cream? Who hasn’t! Unlike Moisture Surge which was a gel-cream, this Turnaround Overnight Cream ($94 for 50mls) is a luxurious, white cream that contains exfoliators to act overnight using RNA fragments, a patented technology encouraging the natural overnight cellular turnover process. It feels amazing and is very slightly fragranced with a herb-y, botanical scent. This is my personal pick of the range.

Revitalizing Serum

This rich silky milk-to-clear serum is a powerhouse of caffeine, Salicyclic acid, Lactobionic acid, and Acetyl Glucosamine, in combination to act as an exfoliant, fight environmental damage, and clear away dead surface skin cells. The serum ($80 for 30mls) is designed to revitalise dull tired skin to a healthy glow in 4 weeks. It has been formulated to help skin’s natural exfoliation and renewal process using the main exfoliant, hero ingredient lactobionic acid. The great thing about lactobionic acid is that it functions like the marvellous AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), but is less sensitizing. So if you are a person who likes the result of AHAs but reacts to it, maybe give this a try instead.

Turnaround Daytime Revitalizing Moisturizer

A helpful thing about the names in this range, is that they tell you when to apply them; the Turnaround Daytime Revitalizing Moisturiser is for exactly that – turning around your skin’s glow and hydrating skin during the day. It is a lightweight, oil-free day moisturizer to re-hydrate without excess oil using the skincare star, Hyaluronic acid, which goes into the epidermis and helps water retention creating a “moisture reservoir” to plump up skin with moisture. The daytime moisturizer comes in a 50ml tube in the pale blue colour with silver text and lid, and it retails for $89. Perfect to give a pick-me-up to tired and dry skin.

The new range will launch with these products and be on counter from June 2015 in New Zealand where Clinique is sold. Also in the launch range and not pictured is Turnaround Instant Facial and Treatment Oil, bringing it to a total of six products.

Cruelty-free note as many people raise this topic with me: All Estee Lauder brands including Clinique (as well as MAC, Bobbi Brown, Aramis, Prescriptives, Smashbox, and many more) are animal testing-free worldwide but are sold in China, where there is mandatory testing of all imported cosmetics. Thus, whilst the makeup and skincare we buy here IS cruelty-free, the brands do not qualify for international cruelty-free status, due to China. I hope China lifts this rule and  they can be animal-testing free, worldwide, very soon.
