Make-up artist Allie Clark sleeps with Matte.

And she got us to take Matte home.

Matte, in case you’re wondering, is the world’s first shine-free 100% pure mineral foundation, newly released in the Bare Minerals make-up line by the Bare Escentuals brand.

Customer feedback that the original luminous powder makeup was sometimes shiny lead to the development of this new matte makeup. With 100% pure minerals free of harsh chemicals and preservatives, it minimises pores and is perfect for oily skin. You can even sleep with Matte overnight and it won’t stain your pillow. Although Allie recommends you wash it off except in extreme emergencies.

"It’s great to have a textural mix with a matte skin" says Allie, who recommends wearing some patent for instance, for shine in your outfit in contrast to your matte foundation.

"This is the first pure mineral makeup that offers a matte texture. The calcium extract and silica absorb oil on the surface of the skin. They’ve removed the ingredient from the original formula which gave it its luminosity, and its shine."

To apply, first swirl a small amount in the lid with the brush, then tap away excess, then buff onto skin in a circular motion.

It has a SPF15 UV broad spectrum filter too for sun protection.

The Click Lock and Go lid prevents product from falling out of the sieve into your handbag- although you shouldn’t really need to have it in your handbag to re-apply it during the day, as unlike liquid makeup, it doesn’t get absorbed into your skin.

Bare Minerals Matte is available from August 2010 at leading department stores, spas and beauty salons.

So get a date with Matte. And it’s up to you whether you take Matte to bed or not…
