The Sodashi skincare range for men – called MANKIND – uses plant essences cedarwood, lime and cypress help to keep the pores clear whilst lemon and rosemary soften and smooth the skin. We tried the Clean Skin Cleanser and Shaving Emulsion, the Skin Karma Aftershave and Face Mist, Skin Restore, and Sleek Moisturiser.

Our tester said "I found the Clean Skin Cleanser and Shaving Emulsion quite useful combined, as you only have one bottle."

"Using the Skin Karma Aftershave and Face Mist, together with the Sleek Moisturiser, left my skin highly moisturised all day. Left no residue. Absorbed quickly."

"This range feels really high quality, with really great packaging."

Sodashi MANKIND is available from www.mollies.co.nz and for more info see www.sodashi.com

Dermalogica Post-Shave Balm. Our tester says this is "A fantastic quality product that is perfect for even those with facial hair, which can often be a real pain when moisturising as creams can go sticky and appear white in your beard." He said it feels great on the skin and sinks in well and smells nice, too. Available from Dermalogica counters and www.dermalogica.co.nz.

Remington’s most advanced facial trimmer yet – Touch Control ($149.95) This is very hi-tech with its settings for different depth of trimming. In fact the length of beard adjustment is down to the tenth of a millimetre! That is cutting it very fine, indeed. You can have different speeds of cutting. The battery charge didn’t last long between shaves, but it can be re-charged anywhere from your laptop using micro USB charging technology. We like that is has an extended 3-year warranty. Available from all leading electrical retailers. For stockist info phone 0800 736 776.

The new Schick Quattro Titanium Freestyle is designed for styling facial hair. It shaves, edges, and trims. Our tester said "This battery-operated shaver is good for sideburns and edge of beards. I like that it’s waterproof."

Lock Stock & Barrel is an Australian brand of good-looking hair products for men. We like the translucent red packaging and nice graphic design. Our tester tried the Recharge Super Moisturising and Conditioning Shampoo and loved it so much he has used it everyday since. He said he like that "It combines shampoo and conditioner, and smells nice – and was great to use." For more info see www.spacem.com.au

Bread & Butter skincare for men was developed in Canada by founder Brian Lau who says men want a routine that’s simplified, without the hassle of buying skincare products. We think the handwritten style font and packaging says "approachable" rather than "sophisticated." We like that they are all able to be carry-on luggage as sized at 90 grams each, coming under the 100 gram airline liquids limit. It is available in NZ in simple kits online at www.breadandbutterskincare.co.nz with free nationwide delivery for $49 for any 3 items and $69 for any 5 items.
