Have you heard of the toast, "Here’s mud in your eye"? I often think of it when I see mud packs designed to go around my eyes.
The old toast is a saying from the bible story of Jesus healing the man born blind by putting mud in his eyes and telling him to go wash it off in the Pool of Siloam. It became popularized in the World War I trenches when mud got in everything, including your food and drink.
Now, you can follow in the footsteps of healing mud with New Zealand made geothermal mud skincare from top Rotorua spas.
The Wai Ora Day Spa on Lake Rotorua has been named the New Zealand winner in three categories at the 2012 World Luxury Spa Awards.
It produces the Alite spa range which use mineral-enriched mud from Hell’s Gate – the most active geothermal reserve in NZ.
Below: Alite Face Mask $54, Alite Whitening Cream $78.
Alite Soap is a very large size and retails for $18. The Alite range is available at the Wai Ora Spa in Rotorua, and online at www.hellsgate.co.nz
Polynesian Spa mineral bath salts are blended to replicate the mineral content of the geothermal waters in the historic Priest and Rachel springs at Polynesian Spa. The bath salts contain essential minerals, including sulphur – a natural antiseptic aiding damaged skin. It also includes Horopito (Maori bush pepper), a natural antioxidant, and lavender for relaxation.
Thread loves the vintage-style packaging using the original historic photographs of early visitors to Rotorua ‘taking the waters’ in the lake. I can’t wait to try it in my own bath!
Polynesian Spa mineral bath salts retail for $8 for 100g and $30 for 1kg. Available on site at Polynesian Spa in Rotorua.
