From the outside, the Hyatt Regency Auckland looks like a classic piece of post-war NZ architecture. But inside, the gentle giant of Waterloo Crescent’s rejuvenation program is now complete. The Regency tower now boasts the newest rooms in the city, while the Residences tower, Cafe restaurant and the Lobby have also received an extensive makeover. The hotel is also now completely wireless.
Downstairs at the Spa at the Hyatt, I was seriously impressed. There is so much room down there; it puts the "spa" into "spacious" I was thinking as I hot-footed it along the extensive corriders from the lobby to the spa. As well as treatment rooms, it has a fully equipped gym, a 25m heated swimming pool, spa pool, sauna, steam room, sun terrace and juice bar! So much more than meets the eye.
Recently the Spa at the Hyatt went live with New Zealand’s first real-time online reservation system, enabling clients to view the spa menu, check the availability of appointments to tie in with their schedule and book treatments 24 hours a day, placing the client at the centre of the reservation experience. In the near future clients will also be able to purchase and print gift vouchers at www.spaatthehyatt.co.nz. All other main spas do not offer this service; they all have reservation e-mail templates to request treatments.
Below: the relaxation room. Here, my Facialist met me and gave me a clipboard questionnaire to learn a little more about my skin and what I was after with my treatment. She custom-made an Elemis facial after listening to my key concerns of pigmentation, dehydration and skin ageing. She said my skin was "’dehydrated’, as opposed to ‘dry’" and applied botanical cleaners and moisturisers by Elemis.
My skin is looking and feeling the best it has in ages, especially after recovering from a long airline journey. Facials are priced at $95 for 60 mins and from $150 for 90 minutes.
A specialty of Spa at the Hyatt is the Traditional New Zealand Greenstone Massage ($150 for 75 minutes.) A combination of greenstone, NZ jade or pounamu, is warmed to varying temperatures and placed on energy spots alongside gentle massage strokes to soothe and uplift.
