The cold snap has truly hit. I am sitting inside, I might add, in three layers of merino and a scarf and hat on, it’s ridiculous. What could be nicer than peeling off all the layers and sitting immersed in hot water with a view of a natural lake rising with steam? Nothing, except if that hot soak is followed by a relaxing facial….and that is exactly what happened to me at the weekend when I went down to experience a taste of Facial Month at Polynesian Spa in Rotorua.
I was told to make my way to the Lake Pool for an hour before having a facial, to warm the body and soften the skin in the mineral-rich waters. There’s a comfortable lounge next to the changing rooms that are complete with Earth’s Organics shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, so you don’t even need to bring your own and lovely luxurious navy cotton bathrobes and all towels are provided inclusive as well. The facial room was cosy and warm, and my facialist was amazing. I had the Timeless Facial for one hour and it had a arm and hand massage as well which felt incredible on my computer-tired arms. The facial started with a lovely-fragranced manuka honey mask, a cleansing mask, and then hydrating moisturisers which left my skin feeling nourished and soft. This would be a beautiful treat for yourself or for a friend or even a wedding or special birthday gift.
Below: relaxing before the facial in the five outdoor Lake pools of varying temperature. It was my first time in Priest Spring – famous for its opaque silica waters that ease aches and pains.
The stunning view of the Rotorua lake and geothermal steam rising off the waters.
You can read more details about the prices and types of facials available at their website www.polynesianspa.co.nz and book for your own taste of relaxing heaven. Oh – and maybe take some of that merino – but only for when you’re out of the water- it’s beautiful but pretty cold. Enjoy.
While I was relaxing in the facial, my family enjoyed the Family Spa (which the public can go to for just $15 a person) next to the Lake Spa. They loved the water slide especially.
