I headed into Room Nine to meet the lovely Amelia Story for a Mybody Probiotic Youthboost peel using skin brighteners, Lactic Acid and Probiotic derived Bio Actives.
This treatment is for aging skin, and those with acne, to "boost the skin’s immune response to generate new, healthy skin." On the day of treatment it gives an immediate tightening effect, lessens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and lightens hyperpigmentation.
As with all treatments, everybody reacts differently and most people won’t get a reaction but I had a strong reaction to the peel and it flaked and was red, which calmed after four days of using the Mybody products exclusively.
It is classed as "a non-invasive treatment with all the benefits of a clinical peel, but with virtually no downtime or excessive peeling."
Below: The after-care kit has great names, including Clean Routine, Calm After The Storm, Safety Blanket, and Protect & Serve. Everyone takes this home after their peel.
What does it contain?
The Prep Pen contains Lauric Acid, derived from coconut oil, to help skin retain moisture and softness, Bearberry Leaf Extract for an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect, Licorice Root Extract to prevent melanin production, and Vitamin C Ester which is quickly absorbed by the body and more stable than other forms of Vitamin C.
The Peel Pen with the myPROBIOTIC Skin Renewal Technology has 1, 3 Beta Glucan for stimulating the body’s immune system and helps skin appear revitalized. It contains (PDB) Probiotic derived Bio Actives as the main ingredient that’s driving into the skin; and the Lactic helps transport it.

My Body was really helpful in response to my skin reaction, saying sometimes our skin has hot spots which are more dry or sensitive and can absorb more product, and to use only one layer of prep and treatment; more isn’t necessary as the probiotic is really the workhorse and is stimulating our immune system without inflammation.
I took their advice and used the mybody product Calm After The Storm which was really soothing (except in raw areas which you should avoid products, and perhaps use an antibiotic ointment to protect it.)
Other possibilities for an irritation can be skincare products such as using Retin-A or other prescription retinoids or Benzoyl Peroxide etc which can make skin over dry and cause irritation and can leave skin a bit more compromised. Also, dehydration is another reason for the treatment going deeper in some areas. The eye orbital area is thinner skin and is the first place you will see dehydration. Treatment professionals can also use a Wood’s lamp to check for dehydration before doing the Youthboost Treatment.
Below: Mybody also do a range of probiotic body products including these Bath + Shower Gels in soothing rose and chamomile and energizing bergamot lime.
My skin is totally back to normal within a week and no peeling at all. I would recommend to all wanting a non-invasive peel, just start with a low level for a short time the first time and see how you go with that. You can book at www.roomnine.co.nz and Amelia Story was fantastic.
