Last night was the launch of the Neutrogena Rialto Autumn Season with a glass or two of Stoneleigh Pinot (in my case), and nibbles.

The Rialto Autumn Season showcases some great films including a French comedy, Heartbreaker, with Vanessa Paradis (Mrs Johnny Depp for the uninitiated) which looks great. Brighton Rock is set in the ’60s when Brighton belonged to the Mods and Rockers, starring Helen Mirren, John Hurt and Sam Riley, who played Ian Curtis in the fabulous ‘Control’ about the Joy Division star.

I’m particularly looking forward to the New Zealand films in the offering: ‘My Wedding and Other Secrets’ and ‘Deserts’.

Below: guests at the launch evening.

The film of the night that kicked off the season was Mike Leigh’s ‘Another Year,’ with a small but memorable performance by Imelda Staunton as a depressed patient. Not the brightest of films (Mike Leigh’s never are), spanning the year in the lives of happily married couple Tom and Jerri. They are definitely the happiest spot in the film as they are surrounded by friends and family struggling with death, loss and loneliness. Not a film to go to if you are feeling even mildly affected by the ‘black dog’, as Winston Churchill liked to affectionately name his bouts with depression.

One is not supposed to go on about goody bags, but this one was splendid. With products from Neutrogena’s new Ageless Intensives Range – Deep Wrinkle Serum and eye cream (for which I am very grateful) plus cleansers and moisturizers as well.

And lastly – just to mention the perenially youthful and cheery Colin Mathura-Jeffree, who was in fine form playing up for the cameras. He is always so positive and and obliging.
