So, why pomegranate?

The seedy red super-fruit fights the onset of ageing with its clinically proven anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-ageing properties. Pomegranate extract also aids skin by helping extend the life of fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin.

Weleda has just launched its new line of all-natural facial care for over forties with the antioxidant-rich star of pomegranates. It’s not anti-ageing skincare, it’s about supporting the ageing process. The range has three products; a serum, day cream and night cream, with an eye cream launching from 1st November 2010. The serum, to be applied after toning and before Day or Night Cream, is created to stimulate skin renewal. The airless pump is new for Weleda and one pump is enough for the face and neck.

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Care Range of body oil ($37.90), Hand Cream ($23.90) and Creamy body wash ($19.90) contain pomegranate seed oils. I especially liked the softly-fragranced hand cream which is great for summer time and the body oil is perfect for massaging in after a shower.

Summer Impressions Bronzing Fluid ($54) gives skin a glow; a luminosity. It includes Pomegranate extract to fortify the skin.

Burts’ Bees Naturally Ageless $56

These products all contain pomegranate, in conjunction with other botanicals: white birch bark in the night creme, evening primrose oils in the serum, and magnolia in the eye creme. The four products in the Naturally Ageless range all retail at $56 each and include Line Diminishing Day Lotion, Skin Firming Night Crème, Line Smoothing Eye Crème, and Intensive Repairing Serum.

Burt’s Bees Pomegranate & Soy Shampoo and Conditioner $30.50 each

A perfect treat for those with fine hair to put some life and bounce in your step. This volumising shampoo and conditioner duo contain anti-oxidant rich pomegranates along with soy, coconut and sunflower oils. The pomegranate and moringa seed extracts moisturise limp hair and the soy amino acids add volume. Our tester liked that it left her hair feeling soft and shiny and she particularly liked that is a 97.2% natural formulation. She noted the shampoo is a lot runnier than the conditioner consistency so go easy!

Nutrafruit Pomegranate body wash $6.49

Here’s our cheapest pome bargain. Kim Schneider, Marketing Director at Colgate Palmolive told Thread; "We went to food industry shows and saw what the key upcoming trends were, and we identified pomegranate and mandarin." Interestingly, trends often start with food and filter down to health and beauty. Nutra-fruit contains extracts of pomegranate which is a valuable anti-oxidant.

45ml ABSOLUT Citron
6 wedges of lime
2 barspoons of caster sugar
30ml of fresh pomegranate juice
Method: Muddle lime with sugar and shake with ABSOLUT Citron and fresh pomegranate juice
Garnish: Rose petals
Glass: Tumbler

So however you choose to take your drop of red, it looks like the pomegranate is the flavour of the day and a beautiful choice for skin, hair and all things luscious.
