In this key trend column, we take a look at belted dresses. Belts, tie waists, belted coats – they all do the same thing; accentuate your waist with a matching tie or belt that comes with the garment, as opposed to adding your own leather or fabric belt to an outfit. This means you get a cohesive, seamless look as the belt is made from the same fabric as the dress itself. It gives a really chic and polished look to an outfit.
After the loose fitting look it’s actually lovely to cinch in one’s waist again and it recalls a bygone era of vintage silhouettes. Here, I showcase a few pretty little pieces from Femme Luxe Finery UK and show you to how to style them with shoes and earrings.
Outfit 1: belted sheer evening dress
Be right on the sheer trend this season, in the Black Mesh Organza Shirt Dress. Featuring an oversized sleeve with a tie waist design, this cute mini shirt dress is a must this season. I particularly like the wide, kimono-esque sleeves, and the button up collar, and elasticated waist with matching tie belt. Style tip: It comes with a handy stretch knit singlet to wear underneath, but you could wear it over other colours for a pop of colour showing through. I’ve worn it with heels for an evening look, but try wearing it over leggings and a cami top and sneakers for a more casual streetwear look.

Outfit 2: Black Chain Print Belted Satin Shirt Dress
Reminiscent of an Italian scarf print, this silky-feel Black Chain Print Belted Satin Shirt Dress with button-up front and collar features a tie belt at the waist and long sleeves with button cuffs. I think it’s an ideal style to wear easily from day to night, by changing your accessories. The mustard colourway in the print is everywhere right now, and you can team it with gold jewellery and black shoes to match the pretty pattern.

Outfit 3: Navy Thigh Split Shirt Dress
The classic shirt dress is making a strong statement this season and this version keeps it cool and contemporary with a tie front detail with a thigh high split making the Navy Thigh Split Shirt Mini Dress irresistible. Team with heels and a clutch for evening, or sandals and a ponytail for day with a tote bag and you’re ready to hit the shops or cafes. Just doing up or undoing the front buttons gives a completely different look to the dress. Style Tip: Wear over white jeans with a red lip and espadrilles for a cute French look.

Outfit 4: Camel Waterfall Duster Belted Long Coat
I’m channeling a chic undercover sixties spy, in this Camel Waterfall Duster Belted Long Coat with its oversized Italian collar and wrap style front. It’s hard to not feel ‘dressed’ when you put on a coat and regardless of what you have on underneath, you look polished and smart. Wear this waterfall duster belted coat by day with boots and a dress or dressed down with jeans, handbag and sunglasses, or throw it on over your dress to hit the restaurant at night. It’s a versatile piece that will take you anywhere.
