I’m off to Australian Fashion Week: what I’m taking

I’m normally quite the planner. I love lists. I even make numbered lists – which you don’t have to tick off in order, but bonus points if you do. So it is with great excitement that I’m planning a trip for my very first time, to Australian Fashion Week 2018, and making a list. Luckily one of the things I’m taking is my fashion journalist Julie so we’ve been planning our week together. Of course, this may involve some wine, and a modicum of cheese.

So excited that I am going as Media to Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week this May! Having a very productive meeting planning with the lovely Julie Roulston who is coming with me and she's an experienced old hand at all things fashion week.

I’m actually over the moon that I am going as Media to Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week this May 13th to 17th. Here are some of the things on my list…

Book flights and accomodation

It’s my first time booking Airbnb and Julie and I found a great apartment in Redfern near The Carriageworks buildings where AFW is held so we don’t have to travel in from the city. This not only means less time in traffic, it means more time relaxing and more steps on my Fitbit as we can walk home. I also like the idea of Airbnb over a hotel room for the reason we can cook some meals and make breakfast there which will work out healthier AND cheaper.

Essentials

Enough underwear for the week without having to do laundry,  in light and dark colours, to match my outfits. Deodorant, make-up, and some multi-taskers in my Benefit cosmetics case which I like as it has a hook to hang it up in the bathroom. It contains Miri skin balm which is an excellent all-purpose skinbalm, Mecca Cosmetics plumping balm which is a moisturiser and primer in one, my Estee Lauder EE Cream as my skin gets dry when travelling and this is hydrating with a nice light coverage, a pink lipgloss, a nude lip paint, a purple lip for a bit of drama, and some shimmery pretty eye shadows.

Travel insurance

Worldcare has provided me with a GoComprehensive travel insurance policy which provides me with considerable medical, cancellation, luggage and repatriation cover. I always insist on getting myself travel insurance since I had a camera stolen once – even when only travelling across to Australia- as your home and contents policy doesn’t apply once you leave the country and a lot of people don’t think of this when they travel somewhere so often it becomes commonplace to them.

A lot of people don’t think of this when they travel somewhere, as travelling to Australia has become commonplace to them. Many people get travel insurance out for Europe and America, but not for Australia, but losing your stuff is just as annoying and expensive wherever you are, so it’s best to be prepared.

I can see from the website that policies to cover you in Australia for a long weekend can start from as little as $16 – so it’s great value for money and super worth it.

luggage

Clothing

It goes without saying that fashion week is hard to pack for. The streetstyle bloggers are out in force, but I won’t be competing with them; I’ll be myself and dress up but still be comfortable. I’m taking some flats for walking around in, some dresses as well as pants and a blazer, and something warm – my Zara trench coat for day and a jacket for night as even though it’s Sydney it can get a bit chilly at night and there can be a lot of standing around waiting.

Accessories

You know what they say “make accessories your successories”. It’s Sydney, so I need a good pair of sunglasses, and these are my current faves; Karen Walker Deep Freeze in tortoiseshell. I’m taking some costume jewellery, statement earrings from Lovisa, my passport, air tickets, Airbnb reservation, my Worldcare insurance policy, and getting my hair done at Blaze salon in Newmarket before I go.
