Fashion media got to drive fast cars fast at today’s Luxury Laps event with BMW at Hampton Downs race track.

We had the opportunity to put the pedal to the metal in BMW 3, 5 and X series at the racing circuit in a women’s only day showcasing the power and performance of the cars.

A highlight for me was the ‘Hot Laps’ finale where pro drivers raced us around the track at 240kph which felt surprisingly safe – those men knew what they were doing. In my go, I reached a top speed of 130kph on the straight.

If that wasn’t enough, we finished with a M.A.C Cosmetics tutorial on how to create a red carpet look, had an amazing High Tea from Austin’s Catering, and a glass of Cloudy Bay Pelorus bubbles on a BMW chaffuered ride back to the office. It was all pretty hard to take, I tell you.

Here are some photos of the day…

We drove the racetrack in each of several series, in teams of two.

The driver trainers gave us helpful driving tips via radio.

The scary part: rocking the 4 wheel drives on ramps.

The 4 wheel drive tipping.

Our team hearing about the special features of the four wheel drives, including safety features such as ‘hill descent’ that brakes for you – yes, you can take your foot of the brake! – going both downhills and upwards for hill starts.
