Imagine having a few days on the slopes with other snow-minded women, getting to grip with your sking or snowboarding technique. Now imagine relaxing afterwards, with a glass of bubbly and chatting about the day.

This is a reality for those on the always-popular Ladies Weeks at Mt Ruapehu run in association with Icebreaker and Morton Estate wines.

Whether you’re an advanced skier or snowboarder, or still learning the ropes, Ladies Weeks are the place to get to the next level.

So, what happens at Ladies Week? The schedule has four hours a day of group coaching with professional female ski and snowboard instructors where you’re put with others at the same level of skill. Three are held per year, with the most recent group being made up of 16 women; 3 boarders and 13 skiers. The week costs $380 which does not include lift passes or accommodation.

Thread chatted to ski instructor Marieke about Ladies Weeks at Mt Ruapehu. "Many women have children in tow so Ladies Week is a great chance to have time to themselves" says Marieke. "Women often find themselves saying, "Is my husband okay? Where are the children?" and so on, so this gives them time – without distractions – to themselves. Many are quite advanced so it gives them the opportunity to improve and re-learn habits they may have picked up. Also, women often learn in groups of men but this is all women together."

"We basically teach all day, for four hours, then have lunch together. At the end of each day we relax with a glass of Morton Estate ‘Mimi’ bubbles, and talk about the day. One night in the week we go out for dinner. (Note dinner is included in the Turoa price but not in the Whakapapa price.) We find you get a great group connection."

"I recommend doing it as you learn so much without the men! Also, the Ladies Weeks sponsor Icebreaker gives the women some amazing spot prizes and retail discounts, which are incredibly popular."
