Most things are walkable in Wellington, and for both locals and visitors to the Capital, there are great places to visit that are off a bit off the beaten track. Cyndi Greep tells us some of her favourites…

Sunday Vege Markets – you need to get up before 12ish on a Sunday but worth a visit to one of the two central city vege markets. One is located next to Te Papa and one on upper Victoria Street.
If you are after some new fabric, check out Global Fabrics on Garret Street which has an open doorway linking AUGUST – a new café (Mark is not only a good barista – if you are there at the right time he will play you a tune on the banjo).
College Street – Head to Moore Wilsons (look out for the dancing dog) for pastries, and a large range of olive oils and cookbooks.
Upstairs is heaven for those who like kitchenware. Visit Madder and Rouge for beautiful striped fabric for deck chairs.
Check out Magnolia for giftwear and Goodness or Miss Wong for designer fashions. Café Laffare and Brooklyn Bagels also are located in this area.
Victoria Street – Gold As Gold had these fabulous shoes on display.
Avid Gallery (Victoria Street) showcases some of New Zealand’s finest talent at reasonable prices, with great buys for the art collective.
The City Art Gallery is free and worth a visit, with Nikau café tucked in behind.
Take a walk around town to view a number of design and artworks such as the wooden design structure in Glover Park off Ghuznee Street, and a mural at the top of Cuba Street.
Upper Cuba street has Minerva, a shop full of books on all aspects of design, art and crafts and Slow Boat records for a wide collection of records and musical diamonds including Dolly Parton for $2.
For second hand books go to Ferret on Cuba or Arty Bees, a second hand bookshop at the start of Courtenay Place.
The Embassy Theatre has an art deco looking passageway to a cocktail bar and movie theatre.
Next door is Deluxe café, specialising in vegan and vegetarian food.
If you are in the right place at the right time you might get to visit a Pop Up Design Shop where designers such as Mondegreen, Andrea Moore and Starfish sell their stock at reasonable prices.
Or else you can just walk with no plans and you might see a scooter you have to take home.
