Royal visit

We had a tour of the liner before the Trelise show, amidst high security with face scanning and barcode ID tags exchanged for our passports. I guess they don’t want any media stowing away on the cruise which starts around $270 a day…

The Queen Mary docked at Ports of Auckland for the day on Thursday 4th March for a world first- a Trelise Cooper show on board the luxury liner decks.

Queen Mary 2’s Ann Sherry said it was the liner’s third visit to Auckland with 2,500 guests and 1,200 crew. 2010 is dubbed "the decade of cruising. In the last twelve months cruising has grown 50% in the market. 120,000 people come to New Zealand by ship in the next twelve months" Sherry said.

"Today’s Trelise Cooper show is a marriage of an iconic New Zealand brand using the ship as a platform to launch her next season of clothes."

We had a tour of the liner before the show, amidst high security with face scanning and individual barcode ID tags exchanged for our passports or drivers licences. I guess they don’t want any media stowing away on the cruise which starts around $270 a day, meals included and alcohol and spa treatments extra.

Pictured left, my one-size-fits-all fashion statement: a life preserver. Essential cruise wear.

Below: Trelise speaking before her show, saying "It’s a wonderful opportunity to use such a beautiful lady as a catwalk. I’ll be showing beautiful, feminine fashion, elegance and all the things that make being a woman in New Zealand so fantastic!"

Reliving our Titanic fantasies – not the sinking ones, obviously – enjoying a cuppa on the fabulous green and white striped deck chairs.

The Queen Mary 2 day spa. The liner has a total of 5 swimming pools.

Inside the opulent restaurant. After lunch they change from buffet to fine dining table service at night.

The Ballroom. There’s also a disco, which they assure me, does get used.
